Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Khāshiʿūn (خاشعون): Those who are humble, submissive, and tranquil in their worship; their hearts are filled with awe of Allah, and their bodies are calm and still.
- Ṣalātihim (صلاتهم): Their prayer — the formal act of worship performed with specific movements and words.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse describes a defining quality of the true believers: they are those who, in their prayers, are deeply humble and submissive before Allah. Their hearts are fully present, emptied of worldly distractions, and their limbs are at peace — no fidgeting, no haste, no turning away. They stand before their Lord with a profound sense of reverence, knowing that they are in the presence of the Most Merciful. Their eyes are lowered toward the place of prostration, their voices are soft, and their entire being is absorbed in the sacred act of worship. This humility is not merely outward; it springs from a heart that is alive with faith, aware of Allah’s greatness, and conscious of standing before Him. Such a state of khushūʿ (humility) is the essence of prayer — it transforms the ritual into a living connection between the servant and his Creator.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
Dear reader, imagine standing before a mighty king — would you let your mind wander or your body fidget? How much greater is the King of all kings, the Lord of the heavens and the earth! When you pray, you are granted the honor of speaking directly to Allah, the Most High. Let this verse inspire you to approach your prayer with a heart that is awake, humble, and devoted. Even if you struggle to maintain focus, know that Allah loves the one who tries, and He rewards every effort to draw closer to Him. Begin by calming your heart before the takbīr, remembering that you are about to meet your Lord. As you recite, reflect on the words you utter — they are a conversation with the One who hears all. This humility in prayer is not a burden; it is a gift that brings peace to the soul, light to the heart, and success in this life and the next. The believers described in this verse are not perfect people — they are striving people, and so can you be. Let your prayer be a sanctuary from the noise of the world, a moment where you stand in awe of your Creator, and you will find that this humility spills into every aspect of your life, making you a person of dignity, gentleness, and strength. May Allah make us among those who are truly khāshiʿūn in their prayers.
