Explanation of the Verse:
When the earth swallowed Qarun (Korah) along with his magnificent palace and all his treasures, the very people who, just a day earlier, had been gazing at his wealth with longing hearts and wishing they had what he had, woke up to a shocking reality. Their envy turned into fear, and their desire turned into regret. They began to say, with trembling voices and repentant hearts: "Alas! Indeed, it is Allah who expands the provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts it for whom He wills." They finally understood that wealth and poverty are not signs of Allah's love or anger, but rather a test from Him. He gives to some and withholds from others, according to His infinite wisdom, and no one can change His decree.
They continued, saying: "Were it not that Allah bestowed His favor upon us and spared us from His punishment, He would have caused the earth to swallow us as well!" They realized that their own envious words and covetous desires could have led them to the same fate. It was only by Allah's mercy and grace that they were saved from destruction. And they concluded with a profound truth: "Alas! Indeed, the disbelievers never succeed." They saw with their own eyes that Qarun, despite all his wealth and power, was a disbeliever who denied Allah's blessings, and his end was utter ruin—both in this world and in the Hereafter. His treasures did not protect him, his strength did not save him, and his arrogance only hastened his downfall.
This verse is a powerful lesson for every generation. It teaches us that the love of this world and the envy of others' wealth can blind the heart and lead to destruction. But when we witness the consequences of arrogance and ingratitude, we must turn back to Allah with humility and gratitude. We must remember that every blessing we have is from Allah alone, and every trial we face is within His wisdom. So, dear reader, let this story be a mirror for your own soul: Do not envy what others have, for you do not know the test behind their wealth. Be grateful for what Allah has given you, for gratitude opens the doors of more blessings. And never forget that true success belongs only to those who believe, obey, and remain humble before their Lord. The wealth of this world is fleeting, but the success of the Hereafter is everlasting. Seek that success, and you will never be disappointed.
