Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- An-Najāh (النَّجَاة): Salvation, deliverance, rescue from destruction and harm.
- Adʿūkum (أَدْعُوكُمْ): I call you, I invite you.
- Tadʿūnanī (تَدْعُونَنِي): You call me, you invite me.
- An-Nār (النَّار): The Fire — meaning the Hellfire, the punishment of Allah.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Here, the believing man from the family of Pharaoh — a man of wisdom and sincerity — turns to his people with a heart full of compassion and bewilderment. He says: "O my people! What is the matter with me? I call you to salvation, and you call me to the Fire!"
He is amazed at the sheer contradiction and absurdity of their exchange. He invites them to *Tawheed* — to worship Allah alone, to believe in His Messenger Moses (peace be upon him), and to follow the path of righteousness. This invitation leads to eternal bliss in Paradise and safety from the horrors of the Hereafter. It is a call to everything good, pure, and lasting.
Yet, astonishingly, they invite him to the opposite — to *Shirk* (associating partners with Allah), to disbelief, and to disobedience. And what is the outcome of their invitation? Nothing but the Fire of Hell, the anger of Allah, and eternal punishment.
He repeats his call to them — "O my people!" — not once, but again and again, like a loving father trying to wake his children from a deep slumber of heedlessness. He is not merely informing them; he is rebuking them gently, shaking their hearts with the sheer irrationality of their position. How can anyone, in their right mind, choose the Fire over Paradise? How can anyone reject the hand that reaches out to save them and instead pull themselves toward destruction?
This verse is a timeless lesson for every believer. It reminds us that the call to truth is a call to salvation — salvation from confusion, from sin, from the torment of the grave, and from the eternal Fire. And it warns us against those who call us away from Allah, no matter how persuasive their words may seem, for their path leads only to loss.
Dear reader, reflect on your own life: Who are you listening to? Are you answering the call that leads to eternal success, or are you being pulled toward that which will only bring you regret? The choice is yours — and the time to choose is now, before the door of repentance closes and the soul returns to its Lord.
