Tafsir (Explanation):
Imagine the Day of Judgment, when Allah will address Prophet Jesus (Isa), son of Maryam, peace be upon him, and say: "O Jesus, son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother." This is a moment of immense honor and a reminder of the countless blessings Allah bestowed upon him and his noble mother.
Allah reminds Jesus of the greatest blessing: that He supported him with the Holy Spirit—the Angel Gabriel—who accompanied and strengthened him throughout his mission. Through this divine support, Jesus spoke to people while still an infant in the cradle, miraculously defending his mother's honor and proclaiming his prophethood. And he also spoke to people as a mature man, delivering the message of monotheism and calling them to worship Allah alone.
Allah also reminds Jesus that He taught him the Scripture, wisdom, the Torah (revealed to Prophet Moses), and the Gospel (revealed to Jesus himself). He was granted profound understanding and knowledge without a human teacher—a clear sign of divine selection.
Then Allah recounts the breathtaking miracles He enabled Jesus to perform, all by His permission and will: Jesus would shape a figure from clay in the form of a bird, breathe into it, and it would become a real bird by Allah's command. He healed those born blind, restoring their sight, and cured lepers, making their skin whole and healthy. He even brought the dead forth from their graves, alive, by Allah's permission. These were not acts of his own power but clear demonstrations that Allah alone is the Creator and Sustainer of all things—signs that pointed directly to the truth of his prophethood.
Finally, Allah reminds Jesus of His protection: He restrained the Children of Israel from killing him when they plotted against him, even after Jesus had brought them clear proofs and undeniable miracles. Yet, despite all these signs, those who disbelieved among them stubbornly rejected the truth and said, "This is nothing but clear magic."
This verse carries a profound lesson for all of us: Allah's blessings are immense and countless, and He never abandons His righteous servants. Just as He supported Jesus with miracles and protected him from his enemies, He supports the believers who sincerely follow His guidance. The miracles of Jesus were not magic—they were the power of Allah manifest through His chosen prophet. So let us reflect on the favors of Allah upon us, thank Him constantly, and never let arrogance or stubbornness blind us from recognizing the truth when it comes to us. Indeed, the heart that submits to Allah finds peace, and the one who acknowledges His signs is guided to the straight path.
