Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Hawariyyun (الحواريون): The pure, sincere disciples of Prophet Jesus (Isa), peace be upon him. They were his closest and most devoted companions.
- Awhaitu (أوحيت): Here it means "I inspired" or "I cast into their hearts" — a divine inspiration, not revelation to a prophet.
- Muslimun (مسلمون): Those who submit fully to Allah, surrendering their will to His command.
Tafsir (Interpretation):
And remember, O Prophet Muhammad, the favor I bestowed upon you by granting you supporters and companions, just as I once inspired the pure-hearted disciples of Jesus, peace be upon him. I cast into their hearts the light of faith and guided them to believe in My oneness and in the truth of My messenger Jesus. They responded with immediate and sincere acceptance, saying: "We believe in You, our Lord, and we bear witness that we are Muslims — fully submitted to Your will, obedient to Your command."
This verse highlights the beautiful harmony between outward submission (Islam) and inward conviction (Iman). The disciples combined both: their hearts were filled with true faith, and their tongues declared their complete surrender to Allah. They did not hesitate, argue, or delay — their response was instant and wholehearted.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Notice how Allah Himself guided these noble men to faith — He inspired them, and they responded. This teaches us that true faith is a gift from Allah, and the best response to His guidance is immediate submission. The disciples did not say "we will think about it" or "we need proof" — they said "We believe!"
This is the beautiful nature of the believer: when truth becomes clear, the heart rushes to accept it. Let us learn from these blessed disciples — when Allah calls us to faith and righteousness, let our hearts respond with the same sincerity: "We believe, and we bear witness that we are Muslims."
And what an honor it is to be called a Muslim — one who submits to the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. May Allah make us among those who combine true faith in the heart with complete submission in action, just as He did for the disciples of Jesus, peace be upon him.
