Word Meanings:

  • Ṣirāṭī (صراطي): My path — the straight and clear way.
  • Mustaqīman (مستقيمًا): Straight, upright, without any deviation or crookedness.
  • Subul (السبل): The various divergent paths — referring to the ways of misguidance, innovation, and falsehood.
  • Tafarraqa (تفرق): To scatter, split, or cause division.
  • Wasṣākum (وصّاكم): He has enjoined upon you — a strong, binding commandment.
  • Tattaqūn (تتقون): To be God-conscious, to guard yourselves against sin and His punishment.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah — the Most High — concludes His series of commandments to His servants by directing them to the very essence of their existence: the straight path of Islam. He declares that this path — the religion of pure monotheism, submission to Allah, and following His Messenger ﷺ — is His own path, perfectly straight and free from any crookedness. It is not a path of extremes or negligence, but one of balance, justice, and mercy.

Allah commands us: "Follow it" — meaning, walk upon it with firmness, make it your sole guide in all matters of life, and never stray from it, whether in belief, worship, or daily conduct. This path leads to His pleasure, His forgiveness, and the eternal bliss of Paradise.

Then comes a profound warning: "And do not follow the [other] paths." These are the paths of misguidance — the ways of innovation in religion, the ways of desires and whims, the ways of disbelief and sin, and every road that deviates from the clear guidance of Allah. These paths may appear attractive or convenient, but they are deceptive. Allah warns that following them will cause you to be scattered and divided — not only from the community of believers, but more critically, from the path of Allah Himself. Each deviant path pulls a person further away from the truth, until they find themselves lost in the wilderness of confusion and ruin.

This is why Allah says: "That is what He has enjoined upon you, so that you may attain Taqwa." The purpose of this divine commandment is to protect you — to make you God-conscious, to keep you mindful of His commands and prohibitions, and to safeguard you from the punishment of this world and the Hereafter. Taqwa is the ultimate goal: a state of heart where you constantly feel Allah's presence, love what He loves, and avoid what He dislikes.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, reflect on the beauty of this verse. Allah did not leave you without guidance — He drew a clear, straight road for you and said: "This is My path, follow it." He did not abandon you to confusion or guesswork. He gave you the Qur'an, the Sunnah of His Prophet ﷺ, and the example of the righteous predecessors. All you need is to hold firmly to this path and never let go.

And how merciful is His warning! He tells you about the other paths not to frighten you, but to protect you. He knows that the human heart is easily swayed, and that the whispers of Shaytan and the temptations of this world can lead you astray. So He lovingly cautions you: "Do not follow those paths, for they will scatter you away from Me."

Today, we see the reality of this warning all around us. People who abandon the straight path of Islam fall into endless divisions — in ideology, in lifestyle, in morality — and each division leads them further from peace and true happiness. But those who cling to the Qur'an and Sunnah find unity, tranquility, and a clear purpose in life.

So, dear reader, make this verse your compass. Whenever you face a decision — big or small — ask yourself: "Does this lead me on the straight path of Allah, or does it pull me toward a deviant path?" Choose the path of Allah, for it is the path of success in this life and the next. And remember that Allah's commandment here is not a burden — it is a mercy, a gift, and a protection. Embrace it with love and certainty, and you will taste the sweetness of faith and the peace of a heart connected to its Creator.

📜 Verse 151-155 — Al-An'am

Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, good treatment, and do not kill your children out of poverty; We will provide for you and them. And do not approach immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed. And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. This has He instructed you that you may use reason."
And do not approach the orphan's property except in a way that is best until he reaches maturity. And give full measure and weight in justice. We do not charge any soul except [with that within] its capacity. And when you testify, be just, even if [it concerns] a near relative. And the covenant of Allah fulfill. This has He instructed you that you may remember.
And, [moreover], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way. This has He instructed you that you may become righteous.
Then We gave Moses the Scripture, making complete [Our favor] upon the one who did good and as a detailed explanation of all things and as guidance and mercy that perhaps in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord they would believe.
And this [Qur'an] is a Book We have revealed [which is] blessed, so follow it and fear Allah that you may receive mercy.
