📖 English Meaning
It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he covers her, she carries a light burden and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful."

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse opens a window onto the magnificent beginning of human existence and the profound wisdom embedded in the creation of man and woman. Allah — glorified and exalted — reminds all of humanity that He created you from a single soul: Adam (peace be upon him). From that very soul, He brought forth his wife, Hawwā’, not as a separate or lesser being, but from the same essence, so that he might find serenity, affection, and companionship in her. This is the divine blueprint for marriage: a bond of mutual peace, not merely physical union.

Then the verse takes us through the journey of human reproduction as a sign of Allah’s power. When a husband and wife come together in intimacy, the wife conceives a light burden — the initial stage of pregnancy, so subtle that she continues her daily routines, standing and sitting, moving through life with ease. But as the child grows within her and the weight increases, nearing the time of birth, the parents — Adam and Hawwā’ as the original example, and every couple after them — turn to their Lord in humble supplication. They call out: *"If You grant us a sound, healthy child, we will surely be among the grateful."*

This is a profound lesson in human nature: in moments of vulnerability and hope, the heart instinctively reaches out to its Creator. It teaches us that gratitude should be the natural response to every blessing, especially the blessing of righteous offspring. The verse gently rebukes those who, when they receive what they prayed for, forget their promise and turn away from gratitude — a theme that follows in the next verse.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on this beautiful verse. Your very existence — from a single soul, through stages of lightness and heaviness, through the prayers of your parents — is a living miracle. The One who orchestrated this delicate process is worthy of your love, your obedience, and your gratitude. When you see a newborn child, remember the hands of Allah that shaped it. When you face hardship, remember that the same Lord who heard the whispered prayers of parents at the moment of birth hears your cries today.

Let this verse transform your relationship with Allah: turn to Him in every moment — in joy and in fear, in ease and in difficulty. And when He answers your prayers, be among the *shākirīn* — those who truly thank Him with their hearts, their tongues, and their limbs. For gratitude is not merely a word; it is a life lived in obedience to the One who gave you everything. May Allah make us among those who remember Him standing, sitting, and lying down — and among those who fulfill their promises to Him.

📜 Verse 187-191 — Al-A'raf

They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival? Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly." They ask you as if you are familiar with it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allah, but most of the people do not know."
Say, "I hold not for myself [the power of] benefit or harm, except what Allah has willed. And if I knew the unseen, I could have acquired much wealth, and no harm would have touched me. I am not except a warner and a bringer of good tidings to a people who believe."
It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he covers her, she carries a light burden and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful."
But when He gives them a good [child], they ascribe partners to Him concerning that which He has given them. Exalted is Allah above what they associate with Him.
Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are [themselves] created?
