Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Fāriqāt (الفارقات): The angels who descend with revelation and divine messages that distinguish between truth and falsehood, between what is lawful and unlawful.
- Farqā (فرقًا): A clear and decisive separation or distinction.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah Almighty swears by the angels who bring down that which separates truth from falsehood, guidance from misguidance, and the lawful from the unlawful. These are the noble angels entrusted with delivering divine revelation to the prophets, carrying the ultimate criterion that distinguishes right from wrong in all matters of life and creed.
This oath highlights the immense significance of divine revelation — it is not a mere suggestion or opinion, but a decisive, clear-cut standard that resolves confusion and ends ambiguity. Just as the angels faithfully deliver this separating message, humanity is called to embrace it with certainty and act upon it with sincerity.
The verse instills in the believer’s heart a profound appreciation for the mercy of Allah, who did not leave us in darkness but sent down a clear distinguisher — the Qur’an and the Sunnah — to illuminate our path. When you hold onto this divine criterion, you find peace in your decisions, clarity in your purpose, and protection from the chaos of doubt. This is a call to honor the revelation by living it, and to trust that Allah’s guidance is the only true compass in a world full of confusion.
