Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Mulqiyāt (المُلْقِيَات): Those that cast or deliver — referring to the angels who bring down and deliver.
- Dhikr (ذِكْرًا): The Reminder — meaning the divine revelation, the Qur’an, and the message of guidance sent to the prophets.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah Almighty swears by the angels who carry and deliver the divine Reminder — the revelation — to the prophets, peace be upon them. These noble angels descend with the Qur’an and the sacred messages, conveying them faithfully from the heavenly realm to the messengers of Allah. This oath highlights the greatness and sanctity of the revelation, and the honor of those entrusted with its delivery. The angels are pure, obedient, and utterly reliable in fulfilling this sacred duty — they do not alter, distort, or delay what they are commanded to convey.
This verse comes within a series of oaths in which Allah swears by various phenomena — the winds that follow one another, the violent storms, the angels that scatter clouds, and those that separate truth from falsehood — and now, by the angels that bring down the Reminder. All these oaths serve to affirm a single, momentous truth: that the Day of Judgment and the resurrection are inevitable and certain. The One who created these mighty forces and appointed these noble angels to carry out His commands is surely capable of bringing the dead back to life and holding all of creation to account.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder the magnificence of this divine oath. Allah — the Creator of the heavens and the earth — swears by His angels who carry the very words of guidance to humanity. This is not a trivial matter; it is a declaration of the utmost importance. The revelation you hold in your hands, the Qur’an, is not a human invention — it is the speech of Allah, delivered through the trusted angel Jibrīl (Gabriel) to the heart of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Let this fill your heart with awe and gratitude. The same Allah who sent down this Reminder has promised that the Day of Judgment will surely come. On that day, every soul will be recompensed for what it has earned. So seize this opportunity — embrace the guidance, act upon it, and prepare for that inevitable meeting with your Lord. The angels who delivered this message are witnesses to its truth, and the message itself is a mercy and a warning for all who reflect. Do not let this reminder pass you by without letting it transform your heart and your deeds.
