Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, we witness the shocking arrogance and rebellion of Iblis (Satan) after he refused to prostrate to Adam (peace be upon him) as Allah commanded. Instead of repenting and seeking forgiveness, Iblis doubled down in his defiance and addressed his Lord with a tone of insolence and challenge. He said: "Tell me, O Lord — this being whom You have honored above me, why did You favor him? What is his merit over me?" This question was not a sincere inquiry but a protest filled with pride and envy.
Then, Iblis made a bold and wicked oath: "If You grant me respite until the Day of Resurrection, I will surely seize control over his descendants and lead them astray — I will cut them off from Your path and drag them into misguidance and sin — except for a few of them." By this, he meant that he would spare no effort to mislead the children of Adam, attacking them from every direction, beautifying evil for them, and whispering doubts into their hearts — until they turn away from their Lord and follow him into destruction. The "few" he excluded were the sincere, devoted servants of Allah — those whom Allah Himself protects and purifies, and over whom Satan has no power.
This verse reveals two profound truths: First, the intense enmity of Satan toward humanity — an enmity that is not temporary but continues until the end of time. He does not merely want to distract us; he wants to destroy our faith and lead us to eternal loss. Second, it shows that Allah's protection is the only refuge. The "few" who escape Satan's grasp are not those who rely on their own strength, but those whom Allah shields with His mercy and grace.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, let this verse awaken your heart! Satan has declared his war against you openly — he has taken an oath before Allah that he will spare no effort to mislead you and your children. He knows his time is limited, and he is racing to devour as many souls as he can before the Hour arrives. But here is the good news: Allah has given you the weapons to defeat him! He has sent the Qur'an as a guide, the Prophet (peace be upon him) as a teacher, and His own protection for those who sincerely turn to Him.
The "few" who are saved are not few because Allah's mercy is limited — they are few because few truly commit themselves to Allah with sincerity. The door is open for you to be among them! Strengthen your faith, seek refuge in Allah from Satan's whispers, and hold firmly to the rope of Allah. Remember that Satan's power is only over those who follow him — but for the sincere believers, Allah has promised: "Indeed, My servants — no authority will you have over them" (Qur'an 15:42). So be one of those servants, and let your life be a testimony that Satan's oath was a failure — because you chose Allah over his whispers, and you will never let him drag you away from the path of guidance.
