Explanation of the Verse:
This verse describes the natural, sincere response of true believers when they are invited to resolve their disputes according to the judgment of Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him). Their immediate and unwavering reply is: "We hear and we obey." This is not a reluctant or hesitant acceptance, but a wholehearted submission that reflects their deep faith and trust in Allah’s wisdom and the Messenger’s guidance.
The verse highlights that the hallmark of genuine faith is not merely claiming belief, but demonstrating it through action—specifically, by accepting the divine law and the Prophet’s ruling without objection, argument, or seeking alternative judgments. When a believer is called to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, their tongue and heart unite in saying: "We have heard the call, and we obey the command." This is the conduct of those whose faith is firm and whose hearts are at peace with Allah’s decrees.
Then Allah declares that such people—those who respond with this attitude of submission and obedience—are the truly successful ones. Their success is not limited to this world, where they enjoy harmony, justice, and inner peace, but extends to the Hereafter, where they will attain the ultimate reward: eternal bliss in the Gardens of Paradise. They have achieved their hopes and aspirations, for they have aligned their will with the will of their Creator, and there is no greater success than that.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse invites you to examine your own heart. When the truth of Allah’s word is presented to you, or when you face a dispute or a difficult decision, what is your first reaction? Do you pause, question, or seek ways to avoid the ruling? Or do you, like the true believers described here, respond with sincerity and submission: "We hear and we obey"?
This beautiful quality of instant obedience is the key to success in both worlds. It brings tranquility to the soul, justice to society, and the pleasure of Allah. The believers described in this verse are not those who obey only when it suits them, but those who submit fully, trusting that Allah—the All-Knowing, the All-Wise—never commands anything except what is good for them.
Let this verse be a reminder that Islam is not a burden, but a path to true success. By submitting to Allah’s judgment, you free yourself from the confusion of personal desires and the chaos of human opinions. You place your affairs in the hands of the Most Merciful, who knows what is best for you. So, embrace this noble characteristic, and be among those who are promised success and salvation. May Allah make us all among those who say, "We hear and we obey," with hearts full of faith and certainty.
