Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Dhurriyyah (ذرية): Offspring, descendants, or progeny. It is derived from *dhara'a*, meaning "to create" or "to scatter forth."
- Ba'duha min ba'din (بعضها من بعض): One from another, meaning they are connected in lineage and spiritual succession.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse concludes the mention of the noble prophets—Adam, Nuh, Ibrahim, and the family of Imran—by describing them as a pure and continuous chain of offspring, each descending from the other. They were not merely linked by blood, but more importantly, by a shared legacy of faith, sincerity, and devotion to Allah. Generation after generation, they inherited and upheld the same core principles: the worship of Allah alone, unwavering submission to His will, and the call to righteousness. This was not a matter of chance, but a divine selection—Allah chose them and purified them for His message.
The verse then affirms that Allah is *Sami'* (All-Hearing) and *'Alim* (All-Knowing). He hears every word spoken by His servants, whether in supplication, praise, or otherwise, and He knows every action they take, whether hidden or apparent. This is a profound reassurance: nothing escapes His knowledge, and He will reward or hold to account accordingly. Because of His perfect hearing and knowledge, He chooses whom He wills for His mercy and selects from His creation those who are worthy of carrying His light.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a beautiful and inspiring message for every believer. It shows that Allah, in His infinite wisdom, has always had a chosen line of righteous people throughout history—people who carried the torch of guidance from one generation to the next. This teaches us that faith is not merely an individual matter; it is a legacy to be passed on. Just as these noble prophets raised their families upon tawhid (monotheism) and good deeds, we too are encouraged to plant the seeds of faith in our children and loved ones, so that the chain of righteousness continues through us.
Moreover, the reminder that Allah is All-Hearing and All-Knowing is a call to mindfulness. When you speak, remember that He hears you. When you act, remember that He sees you. This awareness transforms your life into a continuous act of worship. It also brings comfort: your sincere prayers, your silent struggles, and your hidden good deeds are never lost. Allah knows them all, and His reward is certain. So strive to be part of this blessed lineage—not by blood, but by faith and action—and trust that Allah, who chose the prophets, will also guide and honor those who sincerely follow their path.
