Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Meanings:

  • Asrafoo (أَسْرَفُوا): To exceed the limits, to go to extremes, to commit excesses.
  • Taqnata (تَقْنَطُوا): To despair, to lose all hope, to give up on something entirely.
  • Rahmah (رَحْمَة): Mercy, compassion, and kindness.
  • Al-Ghafoor (الْغَفُور): The Oft-Forgiving, the One who forgives repeatedly and completely.
  • Al-Raheem (الرَّحِيم): The Most Merciful, the One who shows continuous and profound compassion.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O Messenger of Allah, proclaim to all of humanity — especially to those who have fallen into the depths of sin and transgression — a message of unparalleled hope and divine compassion. Allah addresses His servants who have wronged their own souls by indulging in disobedience, committing major sins, and following their base desires without restraint. To them, Allah says: "Do not despair of the mercy of Allah."

This is a direct call from the Lord of the Worlds to every soul that feels burdened by its mistakes. No matter how numerous your sins, no matter how heavy the weight of your transgressions, no matter how far you have strayed — the door of Allah's mercy is wide open. Despair itself is a greater sin than the sins you have committed, for it implies that Allah's mercy is limited, while His mercy encompasses everything.

Allah then makes a sweeping, all-encompassing promise: "Indeed, Allah forgives all sins." This includes every sin — whether minor or major, whether committed in secret or openly — for the one who sincerely repents, turns back to Allah, and abandons the sin with a firm resolve never to return to it. The only exception, as agreed upon by the scholars, is shirk (associating partners with Allah) if one dies upon it without repentance. But for the living who turn back to their Lord, even the greatest of sins can be forgiven.

The verse concludes with a beautiful affirmation: "Indeed, He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful." These two divine names reinforce the message — Allah forgives repeatedly and does not tire of forgiving; His mercy is not a one-time event but a continuous, ever-flowing fountain of compassion. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) conveyed this divine promise, saying: "Indeed, Allah forgives all sins and does not care" — meaning His forgiveness is so vast that no sin is too great for Him to pardon.

A Call to Hope and Action:

Dear reader, this verse is a lifeline thrown to every drowning soul. It tells you that no matter how dark your past, your future with Allah can be radiant. The Shaytan whispers to you that you have gone too far, that Allah will not accept you — but Allah Himself refutes this lie and says: "Do not despair." Your sins, however many, are finite; but Allah's mercy is infinite. So rise, purify your intention, make sincere repentance, and return to your Lord with a heart full of hope. The One who created you loves you more than a mother loves her child, and His door of forgiveness never closes. Take the first step today — for Allah is waiting with open arms of mercy, ready to transform your sins into good deeds and your despair into joy.

📜 Verse 51-55 — Az-Zumar

And the evil consequences of what they earned struck them. And those who have wronged of these [people] will be afflicted by the evil consequences of what they earned; and they will not cause failure.
Do they not know that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
And return [in repentance] to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped.
And follow the best of what was revealed to you from your Lord before the punishment comes upon you suddenly while you do not perceive,
