Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • As-Saqf (السقف): The ceiling or roof — here referring to the sky, which is raised above the earth like a canopy.
  • Al-Marfoo' (المرفوع): The raised or lifted high — indicating the sky's elevation above creation.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Allah Almighty swears by the raised ceiling — and this is the sky, which He has elevated above the earth as a protective canopy and a magnificent structure. It is the lowest heaven, stretched out without visible pillars, adorned with stars, planets, and celestial bodies that guide travelers in the darkness and illuminate the night. This oath draws the attention of every thinking soul to the perfect craftsmanship of the Creator, who raised this ceiling without any support, held it firm without any visible ties, and filled it with wonders that testify to His infinite power and wisdom.

The sky is not merely a physical phenomenon; it is a sign pointing to the One who created it, raised it, and maintains it in perfect order. When you look up at this vast ceiling, you are looking at a living proof of Allah's existence, His majesty, and His absolute control over all that exists. It is a ceiling that does not crack, does not fall, and does not decay — a constant reminder of the perfection of Allah's creation.

Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, pause for a moment and look at the sky above you. That endless blue expanse, or the star-filled darkness of night, is the very thing Allah swears by in this verse. When the Creator of the heavens and the earth takes an oath by His own creation, it is an invitation for you to reflect, to wonder, and to draw closer to Him. The sky that shelters you, that sends down rain, that holds the sun and moon in perfect orbit — it is all a gift from a Lord who loves you and wants you to know Him. Let this verse be a bridge between your heart and your Creator. Every time you raise your eyes to the sky, remember that the One who raised it without pillars is the same One who hears your prayers, knows your struggles, and is closer to you than your own jugular vein. Will you not respond to His call? Will you not thank the One who placed this magnificent ceiling above you as a sign of His mercy and care? Indeed, the sky is not just a roof — it is a message of love from your Lord, inviting you to believe, to worship, and to find peace in His remembrance.
