📖 English Meaning
And of the camels, two and of the cattle, two. Say, "Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Or were you witnesses when Allah charged you with this? Then who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah to mislead the people by [something] other than knowledge? Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people."

  • Al-Baqar (البقر): Cattle/cows.

  • Al-Unthayayn (الأنثيين): The two females (of each species).
  • Ashtamalat (اشتملت): Contained/womb carried.

Explanation of the Verse:

After addressing the eight pairs of livestock in the previous verses—covering sheep and goats—this verse completes the picture by mentioning the remaining four: two from camels (male and female) and two from cattle (male and female). Allah then poses a decisive, logic-shattering question to those who invented dietary prohibitions without divine authority: "Did Allah forbid the two males, or the two females, or what the wombs of the two females contain?"

This rhetorical questioning exposes the absurdity of their claims. If they said males are forbidden, then females would be lawful—but they didn't follow that logic. If they said females are forbidden, then males would be lawful—but they contradicted themselves. And if they claimed the offspring in the wombs are forbidden, then that would include both males and females, making their selective prohibitions utterly baseless.

The verse then delivers a stinging rebuke: "Or were you witnesses when Allah commanded you with this?" This is a challenge that they could never answer, because no such divine command ever existed. It was pure fabrication on their part.

The verse concludes with a powerful declaration of justice: "Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah to mislead people without knowledge?" The answer is clear—no one is more unjust. Such a person not only sins against themselves but also corrupts others by attributing false laws to Allah, blocking people from the path of guidance. And Allah's promise is certain: He does not guide the wrongdoing people. Those who persist in such oppression and falsehood will find no success, for divine guidance is reserved for those who seek truth with sincerity.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

This verse is a timeless lesson in intellectual honesty. It invites every human being to question the sources of their beliefs and practices. Are we following divine revelation, or are we blindly imitating traditions that have no basis in truth? The polytheists of Makkah had inherited customs from their forefathers, yet when challenged with simple logic, their foundations crumbled.

Islam came to free humanity from such superstitions and to establish a clear, rational connection between the Creator and His creation. Allah has made lawful for us all that is pure and beneficial, and forbidden only that which is harmful—and He has clearly explained these rulings through His Messengers. There is no room for human invention in matters of religion.

This verse also carries a profound warning: inventing lies about Allah is the gravest form of injustice. It misleads others and distances them from the light of truth. As believers, we must be vigilant in our knowledge, careful in our speech, and sincere in our intention to follow only what Allah and His Messenger have commanded. Let us thank Allah for the clarity of His guidance and ask Him to keep us steadfast on the straight path—the path of those who worship Him with knowledge, sincerity, and love.

📜 Verse 142-146 — Al-An'am

And of the grazing livestock are carriers [of burdens] and those [too] small. Eat of what Allah has provided for you and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.
[They are] eight mates - of the sheep, two and of the goats, two. Say, "Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Inform me with knowledge, if you should be truthful."
Say, "I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out or the flesh of swine - for indeed, it is impure - or it be [that slaughtered in] disobedience, dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], then indeed, your Lord is Forgiving and Merciful."
And to those who are Jews We prohibited every animal of uncloven hoof; and of the cattle and the sheep We prohibited to them their fat, except what adheres to their backs or the entrails or what is joined with bone. [By] that We repaid them for their injustice. And indeed, We are truthful.
