Tafsir (Explanation):

This noble verse takes us on a journey through the remarkable blessings that Allah bestowed upon the Children of Israel, and it carries profound lessons for all of humanity. Let us reflect deeply on its meanings.

Allah begins by telling us that He divided the Children of Israel into twelve distinct tribes, each one a separate community with its own identity, lineage, and leadership. This division was not arbitrary—it was a divine arrangement that allowed each tribe to maintain its cohesion and order, and it was a mercy from Allah to organize them in the vast desert wilderness.

Then comes one of the most extraordinary miracles of Prophet Mūsā (peace be upon him). When his people were stricken with thirst in the barren desert of Tīh (the Sinai wilderness), they came to him desperately asking for water. Allah revealed to Mūsā: "Strike the stone with your staff." When he did so, twelve springs of pure, fresh water gushed forth from that single stone—one spring for each tribe. Every tribe knew its own drinking place, and there was no conflict or competition over water. This was a clear sign of Allah's perfect care and His ability to provide for His servants in the most impossible of circumstances.

But the blessings did not stop there. Allah shaded them with clouds that followed them wherever they went, protecting them from the scorching heat of the desert sun. He sent down upon them *Al-Mann*, a sweet delicacy that tasted like honey, and *As-Salwā*, delicious quails, as their daily sustenance. They were told: "Eat of the good things We have provided for you." Yet, despite all these favors, some of them grew weary of this provision and complained, asking to exchange it for inferior foods—a sign of ingratitude and restlessness of the heart.

At the end of the verse, Allah makes a profound statement: "They did not wrong Us, but they were wronging themselves." This is a beautiful and crucial lesson. Allah is completely self-sufficient and beyond any harm or benefit from His creation. When we disobey Him or reject His blessings, we do not diminish Him in the slightest. Rather, we harm our own souls—depriving ourselves of His mercy, His love, and the eternal rewards of the Hereafter. Every sin we commit, every blessing we take for granted, and every act of ingratitude is a wound we inflict upon ourselves.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, look at how Allah cared for the Children of Israel in the wilderness—providing water from a stone, shade from clouds, and food from the sky. If He can do all this for a people who often rebelled against Him, imagine what He has prepared for those who truly believe and are grateful! Allah's mercy is vast, His provision is limitless, and His love for His righteous servants is beyond our comprehension.

The lesson here is twofold: First, we must recognize and appreciate the countless blessings Allah has given us—our health, our families, our faith, our daily bread—and never take them for granted. Second, we must understand that when we turn away from Allah, we are not hurting Him; we are only hurting ourselves. So come back to your Lord, taste the sweetness of gratitude, and you will find that He opens doors of provision and peace that you never imagined possible. Allah says: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]" (Ibrāhīm 14:7). Let us be among the grateful, for that is the path to true success in this life and the next.

📜 Verse 158-162 — Al-A'raf

Say, [O Muhammad], "O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death." So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allah and His words, and follow him that you may be guided.
And among the people of Moses is a community which guides by truth and by it establishes justice.
And We divided them into twelve descendant tribes [as distinct] nations. And We inspired to Moses when his people implored him for water, "Strike with your staff the stone," and there gushed forth from it twelve springs. Every people knew its watering place. And We shaded them with clouds and sent down upon them manna and quails, [saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you." And they wronged Us not, but they were [only] wronging themselves.
And [mention, O Muhammad], when it was said to them, "Dwell in this city and eat from it wherever you will and say, 'Relieve us of our burdens,' and enter the gate bowing humbly; We will [then] forgive you your sins. We will increase the doers of good [in goodness and reward]."
But those who wronged among them changed [the words] to a statement other than that which had been said to them. So We sent upon them a punishment from the sky for the wrong that they were doing.
