Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Fa-sbir" (فاصبر): Be patient, endure, and persevere with steadfastness.
- "Li-Rabbika" (لربك): For your Lord, meaning solely for His sake and in obedience to His command.
Tafsir (Interpretation):
This verse is a direct and profound command from Allah to His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and by extension to every believer: *"And for your Lord, be patient."*
The meaning is to endure patiently for the sake of your Lord alone—patient in obeying His commands, patient in abstaining from what He has forbidden, and patient in facing the harm, rejection, and mockery that comes from those who oppose the truth. The patience here is not merely passive endurance; it is an active, steadfast perseverance rooted in sincerity, seeking only Allah's pleasure and reward. It means not to be shaken by the trials of this world, not to despair when the path of truth seems difficult, and not to be swayed by the allure of worldly gains or the pressure of the disbelievers. Your patience must be purely for your Lord—not for praise, not for recognition, but for His sake alone. This verse comes as a divine consolation to the Prophet, who was enduring immense hardship in the early days of his mission, reminding him that his ultimate reliance and reward are with Allah, and that patience is the key to victory. For the believer, this is a call to remain firm in faith, knowing that every difficulty faced for the sake of Allah is a means of elevation and a step closer to His mercy and Paradise.
