Word Meanings:

  • Nusifat (نُسِفَت): Uprooted and blown away, crushed into fine dust and scattered by the wind, leaving the earth completely leveled.

Explanation of the Verse:

When the mountains are uprooted from their places, shattered into pieces, and turned into scattered dust that the winds carry away, the earth will become a flat, empty plain with no hills or peaks remaining. This is part of the terrifying transformations that will occur on the Day of Judgment, when the entire universe as we know it will be reshaped. The mountains—those massive, firm structures that seem eternal and unshakeable—will be utterly obliterated by the power of Allah, demonstrating that nothing in this world is permanent and that all creation is subject to His command.

This vivid imagery serves as a profound reminder of the transient nature of this worldly life. The mountains that people rely upon for stability, that they admire for their grandeur, and that they consider immovable will be reduced to nothing in an instant. It calls upon the heart to reflect: if these mighty creations cannot withstand the Day of Recompense, then how can we afford to be heedless of that Day? The One who is capable of erasing the mountains with a single command is certainly capable of resurrecting every soul and holding them accountable for their deeds.

This verse is a call to awaken the conscience and to prepare for that inevitable moment. It instills hope in the believers who strive in the path of Allah, for they know that the hardships of this world—like the mountains—will pass away, and what awaits them is eternal bliss. At the same time, it serves as a warning to those who are engrossed in worldly distractions, urging them to turn back to their Lord before that Day arrives when no excuse will avail them. Let this imagery strengthen your faith and motivate you to live a life of obedience, kindness, and devotion, for the Hereafter is truly the everlasting abode.

📜 Verse 8-12 — Al-Mursalat

So when the stars are obliterated
And when the heaven is opened
And when the mountains are blown away
And when the messengers' time has come...
For what Day was it postponed?
