Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Furijat (فُرِجَت): Split open, cleft asunder, or torn apart. It refers to the sky being rent or cracked open, allowing the angels to descend from it.
Tafsir (Explanation):
When the sky is split open on the Day of Judgment, it will no longer remain that firm, unbroken canopy above us. This cosmic rupture is not a mere crack but a complete tearing apart of the heavens, signaling the end of this worldly order. The sky, which has stood as a majestic and unshakeable structure throughout human history, will be rent asunder to allow the angels to descend in vast numbers, carrying out the commands of Allah. This event marks the beginning of the final reckoning, when the universe as we know it will be dismantled, and every soul will face the consequences of its deeds.
This imagery serves as a powerful reminder of the transient nature of this world. The sky—so vast, so high, so seemingly eternal—will be torn open like a fragile cloth. Nothing in this creation is permanent; everything will submit to the will of its Creator. For the believer, this is a call to reflect: if the heavens themselves can be split apart, how can we cling to the fleeting pleasures of this earthly life? How can we neglect the Hereafter, which is the true and everlasting abode?
The splitting of the sky is also a moment of awe and terror for the disbelievers, who once denied the power of Allah and mocked the promise of resurrection. On that day, they will witness with their own eyes the very signs they rejected, and there will be no escape from the justice that follows. But for the righteous, this moment is a prelude to the mercy and reward that await them—a promise of eternal bliss in the gardens of Paradise.
Let this verse awaken your heart, dear reader. The sky that shelters you today will one day be torn apart, and you will stand before your Lord. Prepare for that day while you still have time, for the wise are those who take heed before the inevitable arrives. The Quran calls you to this truth with clarity and urgency—so respond to it with sincerity, and you will find peace in this life and the next.
