Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ثُمَّ (Thumma): Then, indicating sequence and emphasis.
- عَلَيْنَا (‘Alayna): Upon Us — a declaration of Allah’s sole responsibility and guarantee.
- حِسَابَهُم (Hisabahum): Their reckoning, account, or recompense for their deeds.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After establishing that the return of all creation is to Allah alone, this verse delivers a profound and reassuring truth: their reckoning is upon Allah, and upon Him alone. This means that no prophet, no angel, and no human authority bears the burden of judging people’s ultimate deeds — that task belongs exclusively to the Almighty, the All-Just, the All-Knowing. The "reckoning" here encompasses the full recompense for every action, whether good or evil, in exact measure and perfect fairness. It is a promise from Allah that no deed, however small or hidden, will be overlooked, and no soul will be wronged in the least. This verse serves as a powerful reminder that accountability is certain and that Allah’s justice is absolute — a source of comfort for the believers who strive in righteousness, and a solemn warning for those who persist in transgression.
Da‘wah (Invitation to Faith):
O dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this divine assurance: your Lord, who created you and knows every whisper of your heart, has taken it upon Himself to settle your account with perfect justice and mercy. This is not a threat to terrify you, but an invitation to awaken your conscience. If you have erred, know that the door of repentance is open, and the One who will judge you is also the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving. He does not need your worship, nor does He benefit from your obedience — rather, it is you who gains by drawing closer to Him. Let this verse ignite in you a sincere desire to live a life of purpose, knowing that every act of kindness, every prayer, and every step toward goodness is recorded and will be rewarded beyond your imagination. And for those who have turned away, let this be a gentle call: return to your Creator before the day when the reckoning becomes a reality, for His mercy precedes His wrath, and His door is open until the very last moment. Embrace Islam, the path of peace and submission, and find tranquility in the knowledge that your ultimate account is in the hands of the Best of Judges.
