📖 English Meaning
They swear by Allah that they did not say [anything against the Prophet] while they had said the word of disbelief and disbelieved after their [pretense of] Islam and planned that which they were not to attain. And they were not resentful except [for the fact] that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them of His bounty. So if they repent, it is better for them; but if they turn away, Allah will punish them with a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And there will not be for them on earth any protector or helper.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Allah exposes the true reality of the hypocrites who tried to harm the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the Muslim community. They swore by Allah, with the most solemn oaths, that they had not uttered anything offensive or blasphemous. Yet Allah, the All-Knowing, declares them liars — for they indeed spoke a word of outright disbelief, thereby falling into kufr after having outwardly embraced Islam. Their hypocrisy was not merely verbal; they even plotted to harm the Prophet himself, but Allah thwarted their evil scheme, and they never achieved their wicked goal.

What was it that they resented or criticized about the believers? Nothing at all — except the very blessing that Allah had bestowed upon them! Before the arrival of the Prophet in Madinah, they lived in hardship and poverty. But through the grace of Allah and the arrival of His Messenger, they were enriched with wealth, security, and honor. Their resentment was thus a sign of sheer ingratitude — they repaid kindness with hostility, and mercy with betrayal.

Then comes the door of mercy: "If they repent, it will be better for them." Allah, in His infinite compassion, does not close the door of forgiveness even for those who have fallen into such depths. Sincere repentance wipes away the past, and returning to Allah is always better than persisting in sin and hypocrisy.

But if they turn away and persist in their arrogance, then a painful punishment awaits them — in this world through humiliation and defeat at the hands of the believers, and in the Hereafter through the blazing Fire. And on that Day, they will find no protector to save them, no helper to shield them from Allah's justice.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

This verse carries a timeless lesson for every soul. It reminds us that Allah sees what is hidden in the hearts, and that no oath or outward display can deceive the Creator. How beautiful is the path of sincerity! How noble is the believer who is honest with Allah and with people! The hypocrites chose the path of deception, and they lost both worlds. But the believer who turns to Allah in truthfulness finds peace, honor, and eternal success.

Let this verse inspire you to examine your own heart: Are you sincere in your faith? Do you appreciate the blessings of Allah, especially the greatest blessing of all — Islam and the guidance of the Quran? Do not be like those who resent the very mercy that saved them. Instead, be grateful, be truthful, and be steadfast. For Allah's door of repentance is open until the very last moment — and returning to Him is always the best decision you will ever make.

📜 Verse 72-76 — At-Tawbah

Allah has promised the believing men and believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence; but approval from Allah is greater. It is that which is the great attainment.
O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.

And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], "If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous."
But when he gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away while they refused.
