Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Salawat (صَلَوَاتٌ): Praises, commendations, and blessings from Allah; a special honor and mention of the servant in the highest assembly (the angels).
- Rahmah (رَحْمَةٌ): Mercy, compassion, and divine kindness that encompasses the believer.
- Al-Muhtadun (الْمُهْتَدُونَ): Those who are rightly guided—guided to the truth, to patience, and to the path that leads to success in this life and the Hereafter.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is the glorious reward promised by Allah to those who, when struck by a calamity or hardship, say, "Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we will return" (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un). These are the people who face trials with patience, faith, and submission to the divine decree.
For such steadfast believers, Allah declares that upon them are Salawat—an abundance of praise and commendation from their Lord. This is not merely a verbal praise; it is a divine acknowledgment of their virtue in the presence of the angels, a raising of their ranks, and a special honor that no worldly reward can match. Alongside this praise, they receive Rahmah—a vast and encompassing mercy that covers their sins, eases their grief, and fills their hearts with tranquility and contentment.
And then comes the ultimate glad tiding: "And those are the rightly guided." They are guided to the correct response in times of trial, guided to patience and trust in Allah, and ultimately guided to the path that leads to eternal happiness in both worlds. Their guidance is not merely intellectual but practical—they know their Lord in times of ease, so He knows them in times of hardship.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear believer, ponder the beauty of this promise! When you face trials—loss, illness, disappointment, or any hardship—do not despair. Your response of patience and trust in Allah transforms your trial into a treasure. The Creator of the heavens and the earth praises you, showers His mercy upon you, and guides you to the highest stations. This is the secret of the believer's peace: knowing that every difficulty is an opportunity to draw closer to Allah, and that the reward of patience is far greater than the pain of the trial. So, embrace your trials with a content heart, and let your tongue utter the words of return to Allah, for in them lies your victory and your honor.
