Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Anfiqoo (أَنفِقُوا): Spend in the way of Allah, including obligatory charity (Zakat) and voluntary alms (Sadaqah).
- Khullah (خُلَّة): Sincere, deep friendship or close companionship.
- Shafa'ah (شَفَاعَة): Intercession — pleading on someone's behalf to reduce or remove punishment.
- Zalimoon (الظَّالِمُونَ): Wrongdoers — those who transgress Allah's limits by placing things in their wrong places.
Explanation of the Verse:
O you who have truly believed in Allah and followed His Messenger! Spend from the good, lawful provisions We have granted you — whether wealth, knowledge, health, or influence — before the arrival of the Day of Judgment. On that Day, no transaction will avail you: there will be no buying or selling to ransom yourselves from Allah's punishment, no profit to be earned, and no wealth to offer as a price for your salvation. Neither will any deep friendship benefit you, for even the closest of companions will abandon one another in that hour of absolute need. And no intercession will be accepted to lighten your burden or save you from the consequences of your deeds — except the intercession that Allah Himself permits for whom He wills and is pleased with.
The disbelievers — those who reject faith in Allah and His messengers — are the true wrongdoers. Their injustice lies in placing their worship and devotion in the wrong place: directing it to created beings instead of the Creator, and thus wronging their own souls by exposing them to eternal loss.
A Call to Action:
This verse is a loving reminder from your Lord, Who knows what lies ahead. He is not asking you to give because He is in need — He is the Rich, the Self-Sufficient. Rather, He is inviting you to invest in your own future, to secure your own salvation, and to open the doors of mercy for yourself before they close forever. Every dirham you spend in His cause today becomes a witness for you tomorrow. Every act of kindness you extend to His creation becomes a shade for you on the Day when there will be no shade but His. So seize this precious opportunity while the market of good deeds is still open, while the doors of repentance are still ajar, and while your wealth is still in your hands — for tomorrow, the transaction will be over, and only what you sent forward will remain yours. Do not let the deception of this world make you forget that Day; rather, let the love of Allah and the hope of His mercy move you to give generously, for indeed, Allah loves those who spend, and He has promised them a great reward.
