  • Yasfiku ad-dima' (يسفك الدماء): To shed blood unjustly and violently.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Allah, the Most High, commands His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to remind humanity of a profound moment in the beginning of creation. He says: "And when your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority.'" This was a declaration of His divine will to create Adam (peace be upon him) and his descendants as vicegerents on earth—beings who would carry the trust of worshipping Allah, building civilization, and upholding justice.

Upon hearing this, the angels—who are pure, obedient servants of Allah—sought to understand the divine wisdom behind this decree. They asked, with a tone of inquiry and not objection: "Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?" They knew from Allah's infinite knowledge that among the descendants of this new creation would be those who would disobey, spread mischief, and commit injustice. The angels, in their humility, pointed to their own constant devotion: they never tire of glorifying Allah, declaring His perfection, and exalting His holiness.

Allah, in His infinite wisdom, responded: "Indeed, I know that which you do not know." This was a gentle yet profound answer, reminding the angels—and all of creation—that Allah's wisdom surpasses all understanding. He knew the hidden purposes behind creating humanity: the prophets, the righteous, the martyrs, the believers who would fill the earth with goodness, establish justice, and worship Him out of love and choice, not just innate nature. The earth would witness the triumph of faith over falsehood, patience over despair, and mercy over cruelty—all of which are treasures that could only be realized through the human experience of free will and struggle.

This verse teaches us the immense honor and responsibility of being human. We are not created in vain; we are appointed as Allah's vicegerents to cultivate the earth with righteousness. Even though some among us may fall into corruption, the potential for greatness, for drawing closer to Allah through sincere obedience, is a gift beyond the comprehension of even the angels. Let this be a call to every soul: embrace your role as a trustee of Allah, strive to leave the earth better than you found it, and know that your Lord, who created you, knows the hidden beauty within you that even the angels could not see.

📜 Verse 28-32 — Al-Baqarah

How can you disbelieve in Allah when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you [back] to life, and then to Him you will be returned.
It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth. Then He directed Himself to the heaven, [His being above all creation], and made them seven heavens, and He is Knowing of all things.
And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority." They said, "Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?" Allah said, "Indeed, I know that which you do not know."
And He taught Adam the names - all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, "Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful."
They said, "Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise."
