Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse draws our attention to the magnificent signs of Allah’s power and wisdom in the universe around us. It is Allah alone – the One and Only – who created the night and the day, the sun and the moon. He created the night as a time of tranquility and rest for His servants, so that they may find peace and stillness after the toil of the day. And He created the day as a time of light and activity, so that people may go out seeking their livelihoods, working, and fulfilling their needs.
Similarly, He created the sun as a brilliant sign for the day, and the moon as a gentle light for the night. Each of these celestial bodies moves in its own precise orbit, gliding swiftly and smoothly – never deviating, never colliding, never stopping. The word "yasbaḥūn" (they swim) beautifully describes their motion: just as a swimmer glides through water with ease and grace, the sun and moon glide through their appointed paths in space, perfectly balanced and ordered.
This perfect system – the alternation of night and day, the precise movement of the sun and moon – is not a random accident. It is the deliberate design of the All-Wise Creator, who has set everything in its place with perfect measure. The sun does not overtake the moon, nor does the night outrun the day; each swims along in its own orbit, obeying the command of its Lord.
Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, pause for a moment and reflect on this verse. Look up at the sky – the sun that rises every morning, the moon that changes its phases, the stars that decorate the night. All of them are moving in perfect harmony, without any disorder or confusion. Who is it that maintains this incredible balance? Who is it that has set these celestial bodies in their courses for billions of years without a single error?
It is Allah – the Creator, the Sustainer, the All-Powerful. If He can manage the sun, the moon, and the entire universe with such precision, then surely He is capable of managing your affairs, your worries, and your struggles. The same Lord who created the night for rest and the day for work has created you with a purpose. He has not left you without guidance – He has sent you this very Qur'an as a light, just as He sent the sun as a light for the day.
So, my dear reader, let this verse increase your faith and your trust in Allah. When you see the sun rise and set, remember that its Creator is watching over you. When you see the moon glow in the night, remember that its Lord is the Most Merciful, who loves you and wants you to succeed. Submit to Him, worship Him, and you will find peace – just as the sun and moon find peace in their obedience to His command. Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.
