📖 English Meaning
Do not make [your] calling of the Messenger among yourselves as the call of one of you to another. Already Allah knows those of you who slip away, concealed by others. So let those beware who dissent from the Prophet's order, lest fitnah strike them or a painful punishment.

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Dua’a ar-Rasool – Calling the Messenger or responding to his call.
  • Tatasallaloona – Those who slip away secretly, one after another.
  • Liwaadhan – Seeking cover or concealment by leaning on one another, sneaking away unnoticed.
  • Fitnah – Trial, tribulation, or a severe test that afflicts the heart and faith.
  • Adhaabun Aleem – A painful, agonizing punishment.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O believers, Allah addresses you with a profound lesson in manners and reverence. Do not treat the call of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) the way you treat the call of one another. When you need to speak to him or call him, do not say, "O Muhammad" or "O son of Abdullah," as you would call your peers by their names. Rather, honour him with the titles Allah Himself has chosen: "O Prophet of Allah," "O Messenger of Allah," and respond to his call with urgency and respect, for his summons is not an ordinary matter—it is a call to guidance, salvation, and the path to Paradise.

Allah then reveals that He is fully aware of those among you who slip away from the Prophet’s gatherings secretly, hiding behind one another, seeking to escape without permission. Nothing is hidden from Him—not your actions, nor the intentions behind them. This is a warning that the hypocrites, who show one thing and conceal another, are under Allah’s watchful gaze.

Then comes a stern and loving caution: Let those who oppose the Prophet’s command beware—whether by turning away from his instructions, delaying his orders, or acting against his guidance—lest a trial befall them in this world, a tribulation that shakes their hearts and exposes their true state, or a painful punishment await them in the Hereafter. This is not merely a threat; it is a mercy in disguise, urging you to cling to obedience, for in following the Messenger lies your protection from every harm.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, this verse is a treasure of etiquette and a shield for your faith. It teaches you that love for the Prophet (peace be upon him) is not a claim but a practice—shown in how you speak of him, how you respond to his call, and how you submit to his command. When you honour him, Allah raises your rank. When you obey him, you secure your path to eternal bliss. Let this verse awaken in your heart a deep reverence for the Messenger of Allah, for he is the mercy sent to all worlds, and his call is the key to your success. Do not let your heart be among those who slip away, but be among those who hasten to every call of goodness, so that you may taste the sweetness of faith and be saved from every trial.

📜 Verse 61-64 — An-Nur

There is not upon the blind [any] constraint nor upon the lame constraint nor upon the ill constraint nor upon yourselves when you eat from your [own] houses or the houses of your fathers or the houses of your mothers or the houses of your brothers or the houses of your sisters or the houses of your father's brothers or the houses of your father's sisters or the houses of your mother's brothers or the houses of your mother's sisters or [from houses] whose keys you possess or [from the house] of your friend. There is no blame upon you whether you eat together or separately. But when you enter houses, give greetings of peace upon each other - a greeting from Allah, blessed and good. Thus does Allah make clear to you the verses [of ordinance] that you may understand.
The believers are only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger and, when they are [meeting] with him for a matter of common interest, do not depart until they have asked his permission. Indeed, those who ask your permission, [O Muhammad] - those are the ones who believe in Allah and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission for something of their affairs, then give permission to whom you will among them and ask forgiveness for them of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Do not make [your] calling of the Messenger among yourselves as the call of one of you to another. Already Allah knows those of you who slip away, concealed by others. So let those beware who dissent from the Prophet's order, lest fitnah strike them or a painful punishment.
Unquestionably, to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Already He knows that upon which you [stand] and [knows] the Day when they will be returned to Him and He will inform them of what they have done. And Allah is Knowing of all things.
