Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- A'budu: I worship, meaning I devote myself entirely to His obedience and servitude.
- Mukhliṣan lahu dīnī: Making my religion, worship, and devotion purely and sincerely for Him alone, with no partner or associate.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger, say to the people, clearly and unambiguously: "I worship Allah alone, with no partner or associate. I dedicate my entire religion—my prayers, my rituals, my life, and my death—purely and sincerely to Him." This is not a mere statement of belief; it is a declaration of action, a commitment of the heart, and a public testimony that separates the servant of Allah from all false objects of worship. The command to say this comes after the command to announce that one is ordered to worship Allah with sincere devotion, emphasizing that sincerity is the very essence of worship. When the Prophet ﷺ declares this, he is teaching his followers that true faith is not just in words but in the purity of intention and the exclusivity of devotion. This verse also carries a subtle challenge to the polytheists: worship whatever you wish besides Allah, but know that your idols can neither benefit nor harm, and your choice will not affect the believer's steadfastness. It is a threat and a warning to those who associate partners with Allah, for they will face the consequences of their choice on the Day of Judgment, when they will lose their own souls and their families—a clear and evident loss.
Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, imagine the beauty of this declaration! The Prophet ﷺ is teaching us the purest form of freedom—freedom from the servitude of creation, from the chains of desires, from the fear of idols and false gods. When you say "Allah I worship, with sincere devotion," you are not just uttering words; you are liberating your soul from every form of bondage except the Most Merciful. This is the path to true peace and inner tranquility. Allah does not need our worship; we need Him. And when we purify our religion for Him alone, He fills our hearts with contentment, our lives with purpose, and our future with hope. So, let this verse be your daily motto: make your worship, your work, your relationships, and your entire life sincerely for Allah. You will find that when you give everything to Him, He gives you everything you need—in this world and the next.
