Fa-in a`radoo famaaa arsalnaaka `alaihim hafeezan in `alaika illal balaagh; wa innaaa izaaa azaqnal insaana minnaa rahmatan fariha bihaa wa in tusibhum saiyi`atum bimaa qaddamat aydeehim fa innal insaana kafoor
📖 English Meaning
But if they turn away - then We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], over them as a guardian; upon you is only [the duty of] notification. And indeed, when We let man taste mercy from us, he rejoices in it; but if evil afflicts him for what his hands have put forth, then indeed, man is ungrateful.

Word Meanings:

  • Ḥafīẓan (حَفِيظًا): A guardian or keeper who watches over and records people's deeds.
  • Balāgh (الْبَلَاغُ): The delivery of the message; conveying what has been commanded.
  • Rahmah (رَحْمَةً): Mercy, here referring to blessings such as wealth, health, and well-being.
  • Sayyi'ah (سَيِّئَةٌ): A calamity or hardship, such as poverty, illness, or misfortune.
  • Kafūr (كَفُور): Extremely ungrateful; one who denies and overlooks blessings while complaining about hardships.

Explanation of the Verse:

If these polytheists turn away from your call, O Messenger, and refuse to believe after you have conveyed the truth to them, then know that We did not send you as a guardian over them to record their deeds or hold them accountable. Your duty is only to deliver the message clearly, and their reckoning rests with Allah alone. Do not grieve over their rejection, for your success lies in fulfilling your mission of conveyance.

Then Allah draws attention to a profound human weakness: when We bestow upon a person a mercy from Us—such as wealth, health, or ease—they rejoice with arrogance and forget the Giver. But when a calamity strikes them due to the sins their own hands have committed, they become deeply ungrateful, complaining about their fate and forgetting the countless blessings they previously enjoyed. This describes the nature of the disbeliever who is ungrateful for blessings and impatient with trials.

Yet, O believer, let this verse be a mirror for your own soul. Be grateful in times of ease, and be patient in times of hardship. Know that both are from Allah—the ease is a test of gratitude, and the hardship is a test of patience. The Prophet ﷺ was not sent to force people into faith, but to guide them with wisdom and beautiful preaching. So follow his example: deliver the truth with sincerity, leave the results to Allah, and never let the ingratitude of people discourage you from spreading the light of Islam. For the believer who recognizes Allah's mercy in every situation is the one who truly succeeds in this life and the next.

📜 Verse 46-50 — Ash-Shura

And there will not be for them any allies to aid them other than Allah. And whoever Allah sends astray - for him there is no way.
Respond to your Lord before a Day comes from Allah of which there is no repelling. No refuge will you have that day, nor for you will there be any denial.
To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He creates what he wills. He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males.
Or He makes them [both] males and females, and He renders whom He wills barren. Indeed, He is Knowing and Competent.
