Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- آلَاء (Ālā’): The countless blessings, favors, and bounties of Allah.
- رَبِّكُمَا (Rabbikumā): Your Lord — addressed to both mankind and jinn.
- تُكَذِّبَانِ (Tukadhdhibān): You both deny or reject.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is a powerful rhetorical question that Allah repeats throughout Surah Ar-Rahman, addressing both humans and jinn together. It serves as a profound reminder and a challenge: "So which of the favors of your Lord do you both deny?"
The meaning is clear and direct — after Allah has enumerated His countless blessings, from the creation of the heavens and the earth, to the sun and the moon, to the fruits and gardens, to the very breath we take, He turns to us and asks: Which of these blessings can you possibly deny? Which one can you claim is not from your Lord?
This question is not asked because Allah needs an answer — He knows all things. Rather, it is a call for reflection and gratitude. It awakens the heart to recognize the overwhelming generosity of Allah, and it silences any argument against His grace. When you look at the universe around you, at your own body, at the food you eat, the water you drink, the air you breathe — every single one of these is a favor from Allah that you did not create and cannot sustain on your own.
The repetition of this verse throughout the surah is itself a lesson: gratitude is not a one-time act but a continuous state of the heart. Every time you witness a blessing, you should acknowledge it and thank its Giver.
A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:
Dear reader — whether you are human or jinn, believer or seeker of truth — pause and consider: Your heartbeat continues without your command. Your lungs breathe without your effort. The earth beneath you is stable, the sky above you is protected, and the sun rises and sets in perfect order. Your parents cared for you when you were helpless, and your Lord provided for you before you even knew His name.
How can a heart that contemplates these realities turn away in denial? How can a tongue that tastes the sweetness of provision use it to reject its Provider?
This verse is an invitation — a gentle yet firm call to open your eyes, to recognize the truth, and to respond with the only fitting answer: "We believe in You, O Lord, and we thank You for all Your blessings. We do not deny any of Your favors."
Islam teaches us that gratitude is the key to increase. When you thank Allah for what you have, He opens doors of more. And the greatest blessing of all is the blessing of guidance — the gift of knowing your Creator and worshipping Him alone.
So let this verse be a turning point in your life. Let it transform your heart into a vessel of thankfulness, and your tongue into a constant praise of the Most Merciful. For indeed, the One who blessed you with all that you have is deserving of all your love, all your obedience, and all your gratitude.
