Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Khafa (خَافَ): Feared, was conscious of, or stood in awe of.
  • Maqam (مَقَامَ): The standing or position (before Allah), i.e., the Day of Judgment when one stands before their Lord for accountability.
  • Jannatan (جَنَّتَانِ): Two Gardens (paradises).

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse is a profound and comforting promise from Allah, the Most Merciful, to those who live their lives with a deep sense of reverence and mindfulness of Him. The phrase "for him who feared the standing before his Lord" refers to the person who, throughout their life, is fully aware that they will one day stand before Allah for judgment. This awareness is not a source of paralyzing terror, but rather a healthy, motivating fear that drives them to obey Allah's commands and abstain from what He has forbidden. This fear is coupled with sincere faith and righteous deeds, as it is the natural outcome of true belief.

The reward for such a person is described as two Gardens—a double blessing, symbolizing an abundance of mercy, pleasure, and honor from Allah. This is not merely a physical reward but encompasses spiritual bliss, inner peace, and eternal happiness. The verse implies that the one who fears Allah in this world will be granted security and delight in the Hereafter, a reward that far surpasses any sacrifice they made in this temporary life. It is a direct invitation to every soul—human and jinn—to reflect on their ultimate return to their Creator and to choose the path that leads to everlasting success.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse is a beautiful reminder that Allah’s mercy is not distant or unattainable. It is within the reach of anyone who simply chooses to be conscious of Him. The "fear" mentioned here is not about being scared of a harsh master; rather, it is the awe and respect one feels for a beloved and majestic Lord. When you truly love someone, you fear displeasing them. Likewise, when you love Allah, you naturally avoid what He dislikes and strive to please Him. This verse gives hope to every sinner: no matter your past, the door to these two Gardens is open to you the moment you turn to Allah with sincerity and begin to live with taqwa (God-consciousness). It tells us that the greatest investment we can make is not in this fleeting world, but in the eternal life to come, where the reward is beyond our imagination. So, let this verse inspire you to take that first step towards your Lord—He is waiting to welcome you with His boundless mercy and generosity.
