Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ظِلٍّ (Zill): Shade or shadow.
- مَمْدُودٍ (Mamdood): Extended, stretched out, continuous, or everlasting.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah describes one of the exquisite blessings prepared for the people of the Right Hand—the righteous believers—in Paradise: "And extended shade." This is not the fleeting, shifting shade we experience in this world, which disappears with the movement of the sun or the passing of clouds. Rather, it is a shade that is perpetually stretched out, never ending, never receding, and never interrupted. It is a cool, comforting, and everlasting cover that envelops the dwellers of Paradise, providing them with perfect tranquility and relief from any harshness or heat. This shade is part of the comprehensive bliss that Allah has prepared for His righteous servants, reflecting His infinite mercy and generosity.
The mention of this shade comes within a broader description of the delights of Paradise—thornless lote trees, clustered bananas, flowing water, abundant fruits that never run out, and elevated couches. Together, these blessings paint a picture of a life of complete ease, beauty, and satisfaction, free from all worries, toil, or discomfort. The extended shade, in particular, symbolizes the permanence and stability of the joy that awaits the believers—a joy that is not subject to change, decay, or interruption.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Imagine a place where you are forever at peace—no scorching heat, no exhausting labor, no anxiety about the future. That is the promise of Allah to those who believe and do righteous deeds. This verse invites us to long for Paradise and to strive for it by living a life of faith, obedience, and good character. The shade of Paradise is a reminder that Allah’s rewards are not temporary or fleeting; they are eternal and ever-expanding. So, let this beautiful promise motivate you to draw closer to your Creator, to seek His pleasure in every action, and to never lose hope in His mercy. Indeed, the Hereafter is far better and more lasting than this worldly life, and the shade of Paradise is but one of the countless gifts awaiting those who love Allah and follow His guidance.
