Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- تُسِرّونَ (tusirrūn): What you conceal or keep hidden in your hearts and actions.
- تُعْلِنُونَ (tuʿlinūn): What you make public or reveal openly.
- ذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ (dhāt al-ṣudūr): The innermost secrets, thoughts, and intentions that reside within the chests (hearts) of people.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Exalted, possesses absolute and perfect knowledge of everything that exists in the heavens and the earth—every creature, every movement, every event, and every detail, whether great or small. Nothing in all of creation escapes His awareness.
Furthermore, He knows everything that you, O people, keep hidden among yourselves and everything that you reveal openly. Your secret words, your concealed deeds, and your private affairs are all fully known to Him, just as your public statements and visible actions are. There is no difference in His knowledge between what is hidden and what is apparent—both are equally clear to Him.
And Allah is especially knowledgeable of what lies within the hearts—the innermost thoughts, the hidden intentions, the sincere or corrupt motives, the good or evil that the soul harbors. Nothing that passes through your mind or settles in your heart is ever hidden from Him. He knows whether your deeds are driven by sincerity, hypocrisy, love, hatred, or any other feeling. His knowledge encompasses the very depths of your being, and not a single secret of the heart remains concealed from Him.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse is a profound reminder of the ever-present awareness of your Lord. When you realize that Allah sees and knows every hidden corner of your soul, you begin to live with a beautiful consciousness—a sense of accountability that purifies your intentions and elevates your actions. This knowledge is not meant to frighten you, but to draw you closer to Him. If you know that He hears your silent prayers, sees your hidden struggles, and understands the sincerity of your heart even when no one else does, then you have found a companion who never leaves you.
Let this awareness fill you with hope: the One who knows your inner battles and your quiet efforts is the One who will reward you for them, even if the world never notices. So, purify your heart, for Allah is the All-Seeing, the All-Knowing, and He loves those who strive to be sincere in their faith. Turn to Him with a clean heart, and you will find that His knowledge of you is a source of peace, not fear—for He is the Most Merciful to those who seek Him.
