Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Naba' (نَبَأُ): News, tidings, or account of something momentous and significant.
- Wabāl (وَبَالَ): The severe and harmful consequence, punishment, or evil outcome of one's deeds.
- Alīm (أَلِيم): Painful, agonizing, causing intense suffering.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O you who have turned away from the truth and persisted in disbelief — has the news not reached you of those who rejected faith before you? Nations like the people of Nūḥ (Noah), ʿĀd, Thamūd, and countless others who came before you and denied the signs of their Lord? They tasted the bitter fruits of their own choices in this very world: humiliation, destruction, and the severe consequences of their disbelief and wicked deeds. Their wealth, their power, and their numbers could not shield them from the punishment that descended upon them. And as if that were not enough, a far greater and more agonizing torment awaits them in the Hereafter — a punishment that will never cease.
Indeed, the news of their fate has reached you clearly. So why do you not take heed? Why do you walk the very same path that led them to ruin? Their graves are silent witnesses to the truth that no one can escape the justice of Allah. The lesson is before your eyes, written in the ruins of their civilizations and the remnants of their downfall.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader — this verse is not merely a historical account; it is a living reminder for every soul that contemplates. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has placed these stories before us so that we may learn without having to suffer the same fate. He is telling you: "Look at what happened to those who came before you. Their power did not save them. Their arrogance did not benefit them. Their disbelief only brought them loss in this world and the next."
So seize this moment before it is too late. Turn back to your Lord with a sincere heart. The door of repentance is open, and Allah's mercy is vast beyond measure. He does not delight in punishing His servants; rather, He delights in their return to Him. Do not let pride or procrastination hold you back — for no one knows when the final hour will come. Be among those who heed the warning and embrace the guidance, so that you may taste the sweetness of faith in this life and the eternal bliss of Paradise in the next.
