Word Meanings:

  • Hal Atāka (هَلْ أَتَاكَ): This is an interrogative phrase used to draw attention and emphasize the importance of what follows. It means "Has there come to you..." or "Have you heard..." — a rhetorical question that affirms the certainty of the news.
  • Ḥadīth (حَدِيثُ): News, story, or account — referring to a significant and instructive narrative.
  • Mūsā (مُوسَىٰ): Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), one of the greatest messengers of Allah.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse opens a new section of Surah An-Nazi'at, turning the attention of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — and through him, all of humanity — to the story of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him). The rhetorical question "Has there come to you the story of Moses?" is not a genuine inquiry, for the Prophet certainly knew it, but rather a powerful literary device to capture the listener's attention and highlight the profound lessons contained in this narrative. It signals that what follows is of utmost importance and deserves deep reflection.

The verse addresses the Prophet directly, saying: "O Muhammad, the story of Moses has indeed reached you" — affirming that this account is divinely revealed and carries timeless wisdom. The story of Moses is not merely a historical tale; it is a living lesson for all who seek guidance. It encompasses the struggle between truth and falsehood, the patience of a righteous servant of Allah, the arrogance of tyranny, and the ultimate triumph of divine will. By invoking this story, Allah prepares the hearts of the believers to receive its lessons with full attention and sincerity.

Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, ponder how Allah Himself chose to tell you this story in His eternal Book. He did not leave you to wander in ignorance but gifted you the narratives of the prophets as beacons of light. The story of Moses is a source of hope for every oppressed believer and a warning to every tyrant. When you face trials in your life, remember that Allah's help is always near, just as it was for Moses when he stood before Pharaoh with nothing but faith in his heart. Let this verse inspire you to turn to the Quran with reverence, for within its verses lie the keys to your success in this world and the Hereafter. Every time you recite or hear this verse, let it remind you that Allah speaks to you personally, inviting you to learn from the past so that you may build a better future.
