Word Meanings:

  • Arsaha (أَرْسَاهَا): He made them firm, fixed, and established them as stable anchors. It conveys the idea of setting something firmly so that it does not move or shake.

Explanation of the Verse:

After mentioning the spreading of the earth and the provision of its benefits, Allah draws our attention to another magnificent sign of His power: the mountains. He says, "And the mountains He made firm and steadfast."

The mountains are not merely random elevations of rock and soil; they are divinely designed stabilizers for the earth. Just as a tent is held in place by strong pegs driven deep into the ground, the mountains serve as anchors that keep the earth's crust from shifting violently and destabilizing life upon it. They hold the land steady, preventing excessive trembling and quaking, so that you may walk upon the earth with ease and live upon it in security.

This verse is part of a larger sequence in which Allah reminds humanity of His immense creative power—raising the sky, darkening the night, bringing forth the day, spreading the earth, and fixing the mountains. All of these are not random acts; they are deliberate, purposeful provisions designed for your benefit and for the benefit of all living creatures. The mountains, in particular, are a silent testimony to Allah's wisdom and mercy, standing as colossal monuments of His craftsmanship for millennia.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

O human being! Look at the mountains around you—their grandeur, their stability, their endurance through the ages. They do not move, they do not tire, and they do not fail in their purpose. Who but the All-Powerful, the All-Wise could have placed them there? If Allah can create such immense and enduring structures with a single command, then how easy is it for Him to recreate you after death? The very same power that fixed the mountains is the power that will raise you from your graves on the Day of Judgment.

So let this reflection fill your heart with awe and gratitude. The One who has provided for you in this life—spreading the earth beneath your feet and steadying it with mountains—has not abandoned you. He has promised you a return to Him, and His promise is true. Embrace His message, live in obedience to Him, and find peace in the certainty that the Creator of the mountains is also your Protector, your Provider, and your ultimate Destination.
