Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Mā'ahā" (مَاءَهَا): Its water — meaning the springs and water sources that gush forth from the earth.
  • "Mar'āhā" (مَرْعَاهَا): Its pasture — meaning the vegetation and plants that grow on the earth, which serve as grazing land for cattle and livestock.

Explanation of the Verse:

After mentioning the spreading and leveling of the earth, Allah then elaborates on how He perfected this preparation for life. He says that He "brought forth from it its water and its pasture" — meaning He caused springs to gush forth from the earth, splitting the ground open with flowing water, and He caused the vegetation to sprout, providing nourishment for animals and all living creatures. This is a demonstration of Allah's complete power and His meticulous care in preparing the earth as a home for His creation.

The sequence here is profound: water comes first, then pasture. This reflects the natural order — without water, no plants can grow, and without plants, no animals can graze. Allah, in His infinite wisdom, arranged these provisions in perfect harmony, ensuring that every creature on earth has what it needs to survive and thrive.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on this magnificent verse! The One who brought forth water from the dry, barren earth and caused green pastures to spring forth from it — is He not capable of bringing you back to life after death? The same power that splits the ground to release water and vegetation is the power that will resurrect you from your graves on the Day of Judgment.

This verse invites you to look at the world around you with eyes of faith. Every sip of water you drink, every bite of food you eat, every green pasture you see — all of these are living proofs of Allah's boundless mercy and His perfect ability to create and recreate. If He can transform a lifeless, arid land into a thriving garden, then He can certainly transform your lifeless body into a living soul once again.

So let your heart be filled with hope and gratitude. The Lord who provides for you in this life is the same Lord who will raise you up in the Hereafter. Turn to Him, worship Him, and thank Him for His countless blessings — for He is the One who says to a thing, "Be," and it is.

📜 Verse 29-33 — An-Nazi'at

29وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَاهَا
And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness.
30وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا
And after that He spread the earth.
31أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَاءَهَا وَمَرْعَاهَا
He extracted from it its water and its pasture,
32وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا
And the mountains He set firmly
33مَتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ
As provision for you and your grazing livestock.
