Tafsir (Explanation):
At this pivotal moment, al-Khiḍr (peace be upon him) turned to Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) and said: "This is the point of separation between me and you." The wise teacher recognized that the third incident—when he repaired the wall without asking for payment—was the final test of Musa's patience. Musa had questioned each action, unable to restrain his natural human curiosity and sense of justice, and now the time had come for their paths to diverge.
Al-Khiḍr then promised: "I will now inform you of the true interpretation of the things you could not bear patiently." This was a gracious and kind farewell—instead of leaving Musa in confusion, he pledged to unveil the wisdom behind the seemingly strange actions: the damaging of the boat, the killing of the young boy, and the repairing of the wall. He would reveal the hidden divine purposes that lay beneath the surface of these events, transforming Musa's bewilderment into understanding and awe.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: there are matters in life whose wisdom is hidden from us, and sometimes we are asked to trust those whom Allah has granted knowledge and insight. Patience is not merely enduring hardship—it is also the ability to withhold judgment until the full picture is revealed. When we find ourselves in situations we do not understand, we should remember that Allah’s plan is always perfect, and what appears as a trial or an injustice may be a mercy in disguise.
The parting of Musa and al-Khiḍr teaches us that even the greatest of prophets needed to learn humility before divine wisdom. It reminds us to approach knowledge with an open heart, to ask questions sincerely, but also to recognize that some truths are unveiled only at the appointed time. And when that time comes, as it did for Musa, the explanation brings peace to the soul and strengthens one’s faith in the All-Wise Creator.
So, dear reader, when life presents you with events that test your patience, hold firm. Trust that the One who orchestrates all affairs has a purpose beyond your current sight. Seek knowledge, ask with sincerity, but also cultivate the beautiful quality of patience—for the interpretation of your trials may come in this world or in the Hereafter, and it will always be for your ultimate good.
