Key Words and Their Meanings:

(Zuyyina): Made to appear attractive or beautified.
(Al-Hayat ad-Dunya): The worldly life with its fleeting pleasures and temporary allurements.
(Yaskharoon): They mock, ridicule, or deride.
(Ittaqaw): Those who are mindful of Allah, guarding themselves by fulfilling His commands and avoiding His prohibitions.
(Fawqahum): Above them (in rank and station).
(Bighayri Hisab): Without measure, count, or limit.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse reveals a profound truth about the contrast between the fleeting illusion of worldly life and the eternal reality of the Hereafter. Allah tells us that the worldly life has been made to appear beautiful and alluring to those who reject faith—the disbelievers. They are dazzled by its glittering treasures, its pleasures, and its temporary comforts. This beautification is a divine test; Allah created these attractions so that people may be tried—will they be captivated by the transient, or will they seek the eternal?

These same disbelievers, puffed up with pride over their worldly possessions and status, mock the believers—especially those who are poor and simple in their faith. They laugh at them, thinking that their own wealth and luxury are signs of Allah's favor, while the believers' modest circumstances are signs of His displeasure. How blind is this perception! They fail to see that the true honor lies not in what one owns, but in what one believes and how one lives.

However, Allah immediately corrects this distorted view: "But those who are mindful of Allah will be above them on the Day of Resurrection." On that Day, when all veils are lifted and every soul sees the truth clearly, the believers who feared Allah and lived righteously—despite their poverty and hardship in this world—will be raised to the highest ranks of Paradise, while the arrogant disbelievers will be cast into the lowest depths of Hellfire. The tables will be completely turned, and the mockers will become the mocked.

Then the verse concludes with a magnificent declaration: "And Allah provides for whom He wills without measure." This is a reminder that Allah's provision is not tied to one's faith or lack thereof in this world. He gives wealth to whom He wills and withholds from whom He wills, as a test. But in the Hereafter, His true, limitless bounty is reserved for His righteous servants—a provision that cannot be counted or exhausted.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, let this verse open your eyes to the reality of this world. How often do we see people who are dazzled by wealth, status, and luxury, looking down upon those who are simple in their faith and humble in their means? Yet, the scales of Allah are completely different from the scales of people. What appears as success in this world may be a cause of ruin in the next, and what appears as deprivation may be a treasure of the Hereafter.

Do not be deceived by the glitter of this world, for it is but a passing shadow. The true, everlasting life is with Allah. Let the believers who are mocked for their faith take heart—their patience and steadfastness will be rewarded beyond imagination. And let those who are infatuated with worldly pleasures reflect: will the luxury of a few decades outweigh the eternity of bliss or torment?

Allah's generosity is boundless. He gives to whom He wills in this world as a test, but His eternal, limitless provision is reserved for those who purify their hearts and turn to Him. So, be among those who are mindful of Allah, and you will find yourself above all that this world can offer—both in this life through contentment and in the Hereafter through everlasting honor.

📜 Verse 210-214 — Al-Baqarah

Do they await but that Allah should come to them in covers of clouds and the angels [as well] and the matter is [then] decided? And to Allah [all] matters are returned.
Ask the Children of Israel how many a sign of evidence We have given them. And whoever exchanges the favor of Allah [for disbelief] after it has come to him - then indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
Beautified for those who disbelieve is the life of this world, and they ridicule those who believe. But those who fear Allah are above them on the Day of Resurrection. And Allah gives provision to whom He wills without account.
Mankind was [of] one religion [before their deviation]; then Allah sent the prophets as bringers of good tidings and warners and sent down with them the Scripture in truth to judge between the people concerning that in which they differed. And none differed over the Scripture except those who were given it - after the clear proofs came to them - out of jealous animosity among themselves. And Allah guided those who believed to the truth concerning that over which they had differed, by His permission. And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path.
Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while such [trial] has not yet come to you as came to those who passed on before you? They were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken until [even their] messenger and those who believed with him said, "When is the help of Allah?" Unquestionably, the help of Allah is near.
