Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Taha (طه): One of the letters of the Arabic alphabet that appear at the beginning of some Quranic chapters. Their precise meaning is known only to Allah, but they serve as a miracle of the Quran and draw the listener's attention.
- Fir'awn (فرعون): The title of the oppressive, tyrannical king of Egypt during the time of Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him.
- Tagha (طغى): To transgress all bounds, to exceed the limits of arrogance and rebellion, to become tyrannical and insolent — particularly in relation to Allah's commands and in one's treatment of others.
Explanation of the Verse:
After Allah, the Most High, had honoured Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) with the great signs of the miraculous staff and the radiant hand, and after teaching him the sacredness of the valley of Tuwa, He now issues him a momentous command: "Go to Pharaoh, for he has truly transgressed all bounds."
This is not merely a suggestion or a gentle request — it is a direct, personal commission from the Creator of the heavens and the earth to His chosen prophet. Musa is being sent to the most powerful and arrogant tyrant of his time, a man who claimed divinity for himself, enslaved the Children of Israel, and spread corruption throughout the land. The word "tagha" here captures the essence of Pharaoh's character: he had crossed every limit, elevated himself above all creation, and rebelled against his Lord in the most extreme manner.
Yet, notice the profound wisdom in this command. Allah does not send Musa with armies or worldly power. He sends him with the truth, with clear signs, and with a mission of mercy — to call Pharaoh back to the worship of the One True God. This teaches us that no matter how great a tyrant may seem, the word of Allah is greater, and the duty to convey the truth remains paramount.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a timeless lesson for every believer. If Allah could command His prophet to face the mightiest tyrant of his age with courage and conviction, then we too must not shy away from speaking the truth, however difficult the circumstances may be. The mission of calling people to goodness and to Allah is a noble one, and Allah never abandons those who carry it with sincerity. Just as Musa was equipped with miracles and divine support, every believer who strives in Allah's path is granted strength, wisdom, and guidance. Let this verse inspire you to stand firm in your faith, to be bold in your kindness, and to remember that no obstacle is too great when Allah is with you. The path of truth may be challenging, but its reward is eternal and its victory is guaranteed by the One who sent the command.
