- Ghuduw (الْغُدُوّ): Early morning — the time of dawn and sunrise.
- Āṣāl (الْآصَال): Evenings — the time from midday (afternoon) until nightfall.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse continues the magnificent parable of Allah's light, revealing that this radiant light shines forth from the mosques — those blessed houses that Allah has commanded to be raised and honored, both in their physical construction and in their spiritual sanctity. These are the places where His Name is remembered through the recitation of His Book, the call to prayer (adhan), and all forms of dhikr — glorification, praise, and supplication.
In these sacred spaces, believers glorify Allah and establish prayer at the beginning of the day and at its end. The "early morning" (ghuduw) refers to the Fajr prayer, while the "evenings" (āṣāl) encompass the Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha prayers — covering the entire span of the day in devoted worship. This is not merely a description of ritual; it is an invitation to make the mosque the beating heart of one's life, where the believer begins and ends each day in communion with their Creator.
The verse beautifully illustrates that the mosque is not just a building of bricks and mortar — it is a sanctuary where the soul finds its elevation, where the heart connects with its Maker, and where the believer finds peace in the remembrance of Allah. When Allah grants permission for these houses to be raised, it signifies His love for them and His pleasure with those who frequent them.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear believer, contemplate the immense honor Allah has bestowed upon the mosques — He Himself has commanded their elevation and chosen them as the places where His Name is remembered. What greater privilege could there be than to be among those who fill these blessed houses with prayer and remembrance? The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever goes to the mosque in the morning or evening, Allah prepares for him a place in Paradise every time he goes" (Bukhari and Muslim). Let this verse inspire you to cherish every step you take toward the mosque, for each step is a step toward Paradise. Make the mosque your second home, and let your tongue be moist with the remembrance of Allah from the break of dawn to the fall of night — for in that remembrance, your heart finds true life, and your soul finds its ultimate peace.
