Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger of Allah, and O believers who follow his path — do not ever imagine that those who have rejected faith and denied their Lord can escape Allah’s grasp or frustrate His will anywhere on this earth. They may roam the land, gather wealth, build armies, and plot their schemes, but they are utterly powerless against the might of Allah. He is the One who created the heavens and the earth, and He holds absolute control over every soul and every outcome. If He wills to seize them, no force in existence can shield them, and no corner of the earth can hide them from His justice.
The verse then delivers a decisive and sobering verdict: their final refuge is the Fire. That is not merely a temporary punishment but an eternal abode — a place of scorching heat, unending torment, and utter despair. And what an evil destination that is! There is no worse end than to arrive at a place where every hope is crushed, every cry unanswered, and every moment is a new depth of suffering.
This address, though directed at the Prophet ﷺ, carries a universal lesson for the entire Muslim community. It is a call to strengthen our trust in Allah’s justice and to never be deceived by the apparent power or success of those who oppose the truth. Their worldly triumphs are fleeting illusions; their true end is sealed in the decree of the All-Wise.
For the believer, this verse is both a comfort and a warning. A comfort, because it reassures us that evil will never go unpunished, even if justice seems delayed. A warning, because it reminds us to remain steadfast on the path of faith, never envying the temporary pleasures of the disbelievers, and never doubting that Allah’s promise is true. So let your heart rest in the certainty of His justice, and let your life be a testimony to the truth — for the Fire is for those who reject it, and Paradise is for those who embrace it with sincerity and devotion.
