Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:

- اسْتُضْعِفُوا (those who were oppressed/weakened): The followers who were looked down upon and considered weak in society.
- صَدَدْنَاكُمْ (we turned you away): We prevented you or diverted you.
- الْهُدَىٰ (guidance): The true path brought by the Messengers, particularly the message of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
- مُجْرِمِينَ (criminals): Those who deliberately committed sin and disbelief.
Tafsir (Explanation):
On the Day of Judgment, when the leaders of misguidance and their blind followers are locked in bitter argument, the arrogant leaders will address their weak followers with a defensive and accusatory tone. They will say: "Did we personally seize you by the hands and drag you away from the guidance after it had already reached you? Did we physically block your path to the truth? No! The truth came to you clearly, and you heard it with your own ears. You were not forced or coerced — rather, you were criminals by your own choice. You embraced disbelief willingly, followed us out of your own desires, and rejected the truth with full awareness."
This verse exposes a profound reality: on that Day, every excuse will collapse. The followers cannot blame their leaders, and the leaders cannot blame anyone but themselves — and each will bear the weight of their own choices. The leaders make it clear that they did not prevent the followers from the truth by force; rather, the followers were themselves criminals who chose falsehood over truth, convenience over conviction, and blind imitation over sincere reflection.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, this scene from the Hereafter carries a powerful lesson for us today. Allah, in His perfect justice, will not hold anyone accountable for what they were forced to do — but He *will* hold us accountable for the choices we make with our own free will. How often do we say, "Everyone around me is doing it," or "My society made me this way"? On that Day, such excuses will be shattered. The truth of Islam has reached you, the Qur'an is in your hands, and the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is before your eyes. No one can stand between you and Allah except your own desires. So seize this precious moment — before the Day comes when leaders and followers exchange blame and regret — and turn to your Lord with a sincere heart. The door of repentance is open *now*, and Allah's mercy is greater than all your sins. Do not let anyone — no matter how influential — stand between you and the eternal success that awaits those who respond to the call of truth.
