📖 English Meaning
If you disbelieve - indeed, Allah is Free from need of you. And He does not approve for His servants disbelief. And if you are grateful, He approves it for you; and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you about what you used to do. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O people, if you choose to disbelieve in your Lord and reject His messengers, know that your disbelief does not harm Allah in the least. He is completely Self-Sufficient, free of any need for your faith or worship. You are the ones in desperate need of Him—His mercy, His guidance, and His provision. Yet, despite His absolute independence, He does not approve of disbelief for His servants. Why? Because He is the Most Merciful, and He knows that disbelief leads only to misery and ruin in this life and the next. He does not command it, nor does He love it; rather, He hates it for you out of His perfect care and compassion.

On the other hand, if you show gratitude to Him—by believing in Him, obeying His commands, and using His countless blessings in ways that please Him—He is pleased with that for you. Your gratitude is not for His benefit; it is for your own salvation and success. He rewards it generously, multiplies your blessings, and opens for you the doors of His mercy.

Know also that no soul will bear the burden of another. Every person is responsible for their own deeds—good or bad. No one can carry your sins, and you cannot transfer your responsibilities to anyone else. This is the essence of justice: each soul reaps what it sows.

Then, after this life, your return will be to your Lord alone. He will gather you all on the Day of Resurrection and inform you of everything you did—every word, every action, every hidden intention. Nothing will be left unaccounted for. He will reward the doers of good with goodness and the doers of evil with what they deserve, for He is fully aware of what lies within your hearts and breasts. No secret, no hidden thought, no concealed intention escapes His knowledge.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

This verse is a profound call to reflect on your relationship with your Creator. Allah does not need your worship—He is above any need—but He invites you to faith and gratitude because He loves you and wants what is best for you. Disbelief is not a crime against Allah that diminishes His majesty; rather, it is a poison that destroys the soul itself. So why would you choose a path that brings you only loss, when the path of gratitude leads to eternal success?

The beauty of Islam lies in this truth: your worship is a gift to yourself, not a favor to Allah. When you pray, fast, give charity, and live in obedience, you are the one who benefits. And when you sin, you are the one who suffers. Allah is Al-Ghanī—He does not need your devotion, but He delights in your turning to Him because He knows it is the key to your happiness.

So, dear reader, seize this moment. Turn to your Lord with a grateful heart. Thank Him for the air you breathe, the food you eat, the family you love, and the faith He has placed in your heart. Let gratitude be your shield against despair and your bridge to His pleasure. And remember: you will meet Him one day, and He will show you the reality of all you did. Make sure that meeting is one of joy, not regret. He knows what is in your heart right now—so let Him find it filled with faith, hope, and love for Him.

📜 Verse 5-9 — Az-Zumar

He created the heavens and earth in truth. He wraps the night over the day and wraps the day over the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. Unquestionably, He is the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.
He created you from one soul. Then He made from it its mate, and He produced for you from the grazing livestock eight mates. He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, within three darknesses. That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs dominion. There is no deity except Him, so how are you averted?
If you disbelieve - indeed, Allah is Free from need of you. And He does not approve for His servants disbelief. And if you are grateful, He approves it for you; and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you about what you used to do. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
And when adversity touches man, he calls upon his Lord, turning to Him [alone]; then when He bestows on him a favor from Himself, he forgets Him whom he called upon before, and he attributes to Allah equals to mislead [people] from His way. Say, "Enjoy your disbelief for a little; indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire."
Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing [in prayer], fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, [like one who does not]? Say, "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding.
