Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • A'lam (أَعْلَمُ): Most knowing, fully aware of all matters.
  • Awliyā (وَلِيًّا): Protector, guardian, one who takes charge of your affairs.
  • Naṣīrā (نَصِيرًا): Helper, supporter, one who grants victory.

Explanation of the Verse:

O believers, Allah—the Exalted and Glorious—knows your enemies far better than you ever could. He is fully aware of their hidden intentions, their secret plots, and the depth of their hostility toward you. While you may only see their outward actions or hear their deceptive words, Allah sees through to their very hearts and knows exactly what they harbor within. He has already informed you of their enmity and made their true nature clear, so that you may remain vigilant and cautious of them.

And what a profound comfort this is! Allah is sufficient as your Protector—He takes charge of your affairs, guards you from their harm, and shields you from their schemes. He is sufficient as your Helper—He stands by you, strengthens you, and grants you victory over those who oppose you. When you place your trust in Him, no enemy—no matter how powerful or cunning—can overcome you, for His protection surpasses all else.

This verse instills in the believer's heart a deep sense of peace and reliance upon Allah. It teaches us that we are never alone in our struggles. The enemies of truth may gather, conspire, and plot, but Allah's knowledge encompasses them all, and His power is above all power. So hold firm to your faith, dear believer, and rest assured that the One who knows all and can do all is on your side. What greater assurance could there be than the promise of the Almighty Himself? Turn to Him in times of difficulty, seek His protection, and trust that He will never abandon those who sincerely rely upon Him.

📜 Verse 43-47 — An-Nisa

O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah, except those passing through [a place of prayer], until you have washed [your whole body]. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands [with it]. Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.
Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture, purchasing error [in exchange for it] and wishing you would lose the way?
And Allah is most knowing of your enemies; and sufficient is Allah as an ally, and sufficient is Allah as a helper.
Among the Jews are those who distort words from their [proper] usages and say, "We hear and disobey" and "Hear but be not heard" and "Ra'ina," twisting their tongues and defaming the religion. And if they had said [instead], "We hear and obey" and "Wait for us [to understand]," it would have been better for them and more suitable. But Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few.
O you who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have sent down [to Muhammad], confirming that which is with you, before We obliterate faces and turn them toward their backs or curse them as We cursed the sabbath-breakers. And ever is the decree of Allah accomplished.
