Word Meanings:

  • "Those who were given a portion of the Book": The Jews who were granted a share of knowledge from the Torah.
  • "They purchase error": They deliberately exchange guidance for misguidance, preferring falsehood over truth.
  • "They wish that you stray from the path": They desire that you, O believers, deviate from the straight path of Islam.

Explanation of the Verse:

Have you not seen, O Messenger, the astonishing state of those Jews who were given a share of divine knowledge from the Torah? Despite possessing clear proofs and evidences that affirm the truth of your prophethood, they have sold away their share of guidance and bought misguidance in its place. They have willingly traded the light of divine revelation for the darkness of error, abandoning the very truths they knew well.

Their hearts are filled with envy and malice, and they are not content with their own deviation — rather, they actively strive to pull you, O believers, away from the straight path that leads to Allah. They yearn to see you stumble and lose your way, so that you may become like them, wandering in confusion and deprivation. Their ultimate wish is that you abandon the path of truth and righteousness that has been revealed to you through the final Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him.

This verse serves as a profound warning and a source of immense gratitude for the believers. Reflect on the immense blessing Allah has bestowed upon you: He has guided you to the clear truth, while others who were given knowledge chose to throw it away for worthless worldly gains. Let this be a reminder to hold firmly to your faith, to appreciate the gift of Islam, and to never take your guidance for granted. For the enemies of truth spare no effort in trying to mislead you — yet Allah's protection and guidance are far greater than their schemes. Cling to your Book and your Prophet, and you shall never be led astray.

📜 Verse 42-46 — An-Nisa

That Day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger will wish they could be covered by the earth. And they will not conceal from Allah a [single] statement.
O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah, except those passing through [a place of prayer], until you have washed [your whole body]. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands [with it]. Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.
Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture, purchasing error [in exchange for it] and wishing you would lose the way?
And Allah is most knowing of your enemies; and sufficient is Allah as an ally, and sufficient is Allah as a helper.
Among the Jews are those who distort words from their [proper] usages and say, "We hear and disobey" and "Hear but be not heard" and "Ra'ina," twisting their tongues and defaming the religion. And if they had said [instead], "We hear and obey" and "Wait for us [to understand]," it would have been better for them and more suitable. But Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few.
