Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Kafaroo (كَفَرُوا): They disbelieved, rejected the truth, and denied the Oneness of Allah.
  • Wa saddoo (وَصَدُّوا): They turned away themselves and others from the path of Allah—preventing people from embracing Islam and following its guidance.
  • ‘An sabeelillah (عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ): From the way of Allah—the religion of Islam, which leads to His pleasure and Paradise.
  • Thumma matoo (ثُمَّ مَاتُوا): Then they died—meaning their lives ended in this state.
  • Wa hum kuffar (وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ): While they were still disbelievers, without having repented or embraced faith before death.
  • Falan yaghfira Allahu lahum (فَلَن يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ): Allah will never forgive them—His forgiveness is withheld from them entirely.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse delivers a decisive and sobering message about the fate of those who persist in disbelief until the very end of their lives. Allah declares that those who reject Him—denying His Oneness and refusing to submit to His commands—and who go further by actively blocking others from His path, whether through discouragement, deception, or oppression, and then die in this state of stubborn unbelief without ever turning back in repentance—will never receive Allah’s forgiveness. Their sins are not merely overlooked; rather, they will be held fully accountable, and their punishment is certain: they will be cast into the Fire, remaining there forever, and on the Day of Judgment they will be publicly disgraced before all of creation as a consequence of their arrogance and rebellion.

The verse also carries a profound implication by its very wording: the condition of dying as disbelievers is what seals the door of forgiveness. This means that anyone who disbelieves or even obstructs others from Allah’s path but then repents sincerely before death—embracing faith and amending their ways—can still hope for Allah’s boundless mercy. The door of repentance remains open until the soul reaches the throat, and Allah’s forgiveness encompasses all sins for those who turn back to Him.

A Da’wah Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is not merely a warning—it is a call to wake up before it is too late. Allah, in His infinite justice, makes it clear that the ultimate tragedy is not failure in this world, but dying in a state of rejection of the truth. Yet, in the same breath, His mercy shines through: He does not say that every disbeliever is doomed, but only those who persist until death without repentance. This is a door of hope wide open for every soul—no matter how far they have strayed, no matter how much they have opposed the truth—to return to their Lord, to say “I believe,” and to be forgiven. Do not let pride or past mistakes keep you from the most beautiful reality: that Allah is waiting for your return, and His mercy is greater than your sins. Come back to Him today, for tomorrow is not guaranteed, and the gates of forgiveness are open right now.

📜 Verse 32-36 — Muhammad

Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allah and opposed the Messenger after guidance had become clear to them - never will they harm Allah at all, and He will render worthless their deeds.
O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds.
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allah and then died while they were disbelievers - never will Allah forgive them.
So do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; and Allah is with you and will never deprive you of [the reward of] your deeds.
[This] worldly life is only amusement and diversion. And if you believe and fear Allah, He will give you your rewards and not ask you for your properties.
