Surah Muhammad — Verse 33

Word Meanings:

• أَطِيعُوا (Atee'u): Obey, comply with, and submit to the commands.
• لَا تُبْطِلُوا (La tubtilu): Do not nullify, invalidate, or render void.
• أَعْمَالَكُمْ (A'malakum): Your deeds and righteous actions.

Explanation of the Verse:

O you who have truly believed in Allah and His Messenger and acted upon His divine law! Obey Allah by following His commandments and abstaining from what He has forbidden, and obey the Messenger by adhering to his Sunnah (guidance) in both word and deed. Do not render your good deeds worthless and void of reward through acts of disbelief, hypocrisy, showing off (riya'), or committing sins. For just as deeds are the seeds of the Hereafter, sins are like a fire that burns those seeds. Your obedience is the path to preserving the fruits of your efforts, while disobedience and arrogance strip your actions of their value in the sight of Allah.

A Call to the Believers:

This noble verse is a gentle yet profound reminder from your Lord, O believers, that your faith is a precious trust—and your deeds are its living proof. Allah, in His infinite mercy, does not need your worship, but He has made it the means by which you ascend to eternal success. When you obey Allah and His Messenger, you align your heart with the universe's Creator and your life with the best of examples. But beware: do not let your good deeds be like a beautiful building that you then demolish with your own hands through sin and negligence. Guard your actions with sincerity, protect them with repentance, and elevate them with steadfastness. Every act of obedience is a treasure you send forth for the Day you will meet your Lord—so never let a moment of heedlessness rob you of that eternal investment. Strive, and rejoice, for Allah is ever ready to accept, multiply, and preserve the deeds of those who remain faithful to Him and His Messenger.
