Tafsir (Explanation):
O you who have sincerely believed in Allah and His Messenger and committed yourselves to His guidance! Allah, in His infinite mercy, addresses you with a profound warning: do not let your wealth and your children occupy your hearts and minds to the point that they distract you from the remembrance of Allah — from your prayers, your obligations, and every act that draws you closer to Him.
Wealth and children are among the greatest blessings of this life, but they are also among the most powerful tests. A believer may become so absorbed in earning, managing, and safeguarding wealth, or so consumed with the care, education, and future of children, that the call to prayer passes by unnoticed, the obligation of worship is delayed or neglected, and the heart grows distant from its Creator. This is the very trap Shaytan sets for the heedless.
Allah does not forbid you from enjoying your wealth or loving your children — rather, He forbids them from becoming a barrier between you and His remembrance. The one who prioritizes the temporary over the eternal, who trades the everlasting reward of the Hereafter for the fleeting pleasures of this world, is the one who has truly lost. Such a person has sold the permanent for the transient, and on the Day of Judgment, they will find themselves empty-handed, having lost both their own souls and the company of their families in Paradise.
This verse is a loving call from your Lord to reorder your priorities. It is a reminder that your wealth will not accompany you to the grave, and your children cannot shield you from Allah's judgment — but your remembrance of Allah, your prayers, and your obedience will be your eternal companions. Let this be an invitation to reflect: are your possessions serving your faith, or is your faith being sacrificed for your possessions? The successful believer is the one who uses wealth and family as means to draw closer to Allah, not as distractions that pull them away. Seize this moment, dear believer, and make the remembrance of Allah the anchor of your life — for in it lies true success, peace, and everlasting joy.
