Word Meanings:
- الرَّحْمَٰنُ (Ar-Rahman): The Most Merciful, whose mercy encompasses all of creation.
- آمَنَّا بِهِ (Amanna bihi): We have believed in Him with sincere faith.
- تَوَكَّلْنَا (Tawakkalna): We have placed our full trust and reliance upon Him alone.
- ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ (Dalalin mubin): Clear, evident misguidance — a deviation from the truth that is unmistakable.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, say to those who reject the truth and call you to their falsehood: He is Ar-Rahman — the Most Merciful — the One who invites you to worship Him alone, without any partner. We have believed in Him with hearts full of certainty, and we have submitted to His command, following His revealed law. Upon Him alone do we rely in all our affairs — in times of ease and hardship, in seeking provision, and in facing every challenge. We do not place our trust in idols, wealth, or power, for He is the sole Sustainer and Protector.
Then comes a decisive warning: You will certainly come to know — when the punishment descends upon you, either in this world or on the Day of Judgment — which of the two parties, we or you, is truly lost in clear misguidance. You accuse us of being astray for worshipping the One God, but the reality will be unveiled when the truth becomes undeniable. On that Day, you will see who was following the straight path and who was wandering in manifest error.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse carries a profound message of confidence and serenity for the believer. When you place your trust in the Most Merciful, you are never alone — He is with you, guiding your steps and protecting your heart. The believer’s certainty is not based on blind faith but on the clear signs of Allah in the universe and in revelation. The disbelievers may mock and threaten, but the believer responds with calm conviction: "We believe in Him, and upon Him we rely."
Dear reader, reflect on this: Who is more deserving of your trust — the Creator who sustains you every moment, or the fleeting illusions of this world? The answer is clear. Embrace this faith, and let your heart find peace in the remembrance of Ar-Rahman. For when you truly rely on Him, you will witness His mercy in ways you never imagined, and you will be among those who are guided to the straight path, far from the clear misguidance that leads to ruin.
