Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Zukhrufaha (زُخْرُفَهَا): Its adornment and beauty — the vibrant colors and splendor of the vegetation covering the earth.
- Izzayyanat (وَازَّيَّنَتْ): It became fully embellished and beautified with flowers and lush greenery.
- Haseedan (حَصِيدًا): Reaped or mowed down — like harvested crops cut off at the roots, lifeless and barren.
- Taghna (تَغْنَ): To dwell, thrive, or remain in a place; here it means "as if it had never existed or flourished before."
The Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the Most High, presents a profound and vivid parable of the worldly life — a life that captivates hearts with its glitter and charm, yet is destined to fade away in the blink of an eye. He compares it to rain that descends from the sky, bringing forth from the earth a rich, intermingled growth of vegetation — plants that nourish both humans and cattle alike. The land flourishes, adorned with its finest colors and ornaments, until it reaches the peak of its beauty and perfection. The people who own it begin to feel a sense of security and confidence, believing they have full control over its harvest and their enjoyment of it. They plan, they hope, and they take pride in their achievements.
But then — at the very moment of their greatest expectation — Allah's command arrives, whether by night or by day, and in an instant, the entire scene is transformed. The lush, thriving vegetation becomes like a field that has been reaped and cut down, leaving nothing behind. It is as if that beautiful, flourishing land had never existed at all — as if it were never there the day before. All the effort, all the pride, all the plans — gone in a moment.
This is the reality of the worldly life. It is temporary, fleeting, and deceptive. No matter how much beauty, wealth, or success a person accumulates, it can vanish in an instant. Allah does not present this parable to instill fear alone, but to awaken the hearts of those who reflect. He explains His signs in such detail so that people may think deeply and realize that the true, everlasting life is the one to come — the Hereafter. Those who understand this truth will not be fooled by the temporary glitter of this world; instead, they will invest their efforts in what truly lasts: faith, good deeds, and the pleasure of their Lord.
So, dear believer, let this parable be a reminder: do not attach your heart to what will surely perish. Use the blessings of this life as a means to reach the eternal success of the Hereafter. For the wise person is not the one who accumulates the most of this world, but the one who remembers that every beautiful garden will eventually be reaped, and every soul will return to its Creator. Reflect, and let your heart find peace in what is permanent, not in what is fleeting.
